A memory from the 1st flight, just over 20 years ago.

Sad sad.

There is so much effort being expended by the SAAF museum guys to resurrect the Spitfire that crashed, yet the Mustang is much nearer to get back into flying condition.

Hi Walter

AFAIK the Spitfire restoration to static is a private initiative by enthusiasts being conducted under the umbrella of the Museum?

Hi Hotspur

True. But then again a lot that happens at SAAF museum is helped along by the private enthusiasts.

Don't get me wrong, I support the Spitfire initiative despite some misgivings about its feasibility. Just lamenting the fact that there is no similar initiative to get the Mustang flying again. It would be awesome.

Think the Mustang was damaged too much especially the wing...
Fly it like you stole it...

The engine/prop of the Mustang needs work. Besides that, it’s just fine.

It would effectively need a new engine and prop, and from what I heard the airframe and wings need to be properly aligned in a jig.
