Air Navigation Pro “issues”

Unread post by Horace Blok » Fri Oct 15, 2021 6:49 am

Morning all

I have been experiencing issues with my Air Navigation pro software.

I lost my South African aviation maps (both 1:500000 and 1:1000000). So of course it’s easy, you just reload them. However once I close the software / switch off my phone, and then fire up the phone and the software, only the base map remains. My aviation maps are gone.

I have been in touch with “support” from the developer and I’m curious as to whether I’m the only one having these issues.

Hi Horace,

Have you tried Skydemon? I find very user friendly and easy to use and prefer it to all others.

Hi Horace

I had a similar issue some time back on my andriod version. I reinstalled the app from the playstore and it was sorted.

.. just out of curiosity - why do you need the Icao maps ? All aviation data is there anyway and the 1/250k open street maps are perfectly fine for me .. ?

Thanks guys - I too reinstalled the SW - issue fixed.

Re the maps - to be honest, I haven’t looked at the 1:250000. But I will. Does it have the aviation database, airspace’s etc etc too??

When I bought the app it was a one-off payment. Then discovered that the charts were only base maps, had to purchase aviation charts separately to get any use out of it. Have login issues every time they upgrade the app, takes ages to load if you haven't used it in a while, and now I can't use it at all as they've changed to a subscription option only, although my (now unusable, lifetime-updated) third party charts still appear as valid.

I'll stick to Easyplan, it works, includes electronic logbook and the friendly folk are available for assistance. Local is lekkerer.

all airspace & aviation data is a vector based overlay which you download separately (very detailed for SA, eg all special rules VFR reporting points are included) - I think its completely redundant to download the expensive ICAO maps .. the open street map material gives better terrain awareness - I got used to it ..

on easyplan - undoubtedly the best airfield data base & most comprehensive information and yes local is lekker - the usability I deem unacceptable though .. having to press thin airspace boundary lines in turbulent conditions is just madness ..
actually you need 2 systems in SA - Airnav / Foreflight as usable, state of the art 'in flight entertainment system' and easyplan / airfield directory for farm & lodge strips & detailed info ..

I was fortunate to have tried Air Nav Pro when it came out initially for free.
I have not updated anything since then but I like to use it as is, which is fine for my situation.
I am not sure updating it would affect my free subscription.
I agree using easyplan/cockpit for the rest.
