Take your licence along, give it to the fligt attendant, and ask her to show it to the captain and ask for a jump seat seat.
I do it often, and i am welcomed in almost every time.
Take a headset along if you want to follow the radio transmissions as well.
It is a privilege to sit in front!

So if I do not have a PPL, there is no way they will allow me in?

JP there is no rule about it. It is just that if the crew see your PPL, or even student pilot license, it tells them them that you are a flying enthusiast, and it gives them some idea that you are not just a nutter, although the second point is perhaps not necessarily true

There are few things more boring than someone telling you their life story and explaining why they never quite got round to taking flying lessons. So try to keep off that subject if you are invited into the cockpit :D

As an airline pilot, if you introduce yourself with the hostie, present yourself in a decent manner (uniform helps), you've got a good chance of getting in I would say. A license most certainly helps and try and board last (difficult with a Type A personality). We were all young and eager to sit on the jumpseat at one stage in our career. It seems like yesterday I was asking every time I flew. As Jim says, a sterile cockpit has nothing to do with another person being there, its got to do with focusing on the task at hand which is either taking off, the approach and landing. For us its anywhere at or below FL150.

Thank you very much for the encouraging words uncle Jim and Grade III. I will try my luck on Tuesday.

I'll be in my work "uniform" which is jeans and a company branded shirt. I will not bore them with my life's story, I'm normally very introverted.

2 chances: slim and none.

The latter even more likely if you spell the name of their airline incorrectly. :)
(No U, Qantas! )

Also, Qantas doesn't fly JNB-Perth, SAA does
Qantas flies JNB to Sydney

Good day.

We are planning a trip from JHB to CPT in December and I was wondering if I
can put in a request for my 17 year old daughter to have a visit to the cockpit during the flight.

Our flight details:
OR Tambo
Mango
Mon 12 Dec 2016 - JHB to CPT
Sat 7 Jan 2017 - CPT - JHB

Please?!
Thank you

Hi all

I'm flying on Kulula on MN494 this Wednesday 23 November, departing Cape Town 12.15 and arriving Lanseria 14.10.

If there's a chance to sit on the jump seat then that would be awesome. I'm a PPL student training out of FALA and it would be amazing to see how you guys do the approach onto 07/25, and any other part of the flight as well!

Cheers
Darren

Hi Folks

Flying Flysafair FA233 PLZ to JNB departing 18h55 on Thurs 08/12/2016

And return FA238 JNB to PLZ departing 18h45 on Sun 11/12/2016

If there any chance of the Jump Seat I would be very grateful indeed. :D
