Upington fuel

Unread post by cam30683 » Fri Aug 12, 2016 11:49 am

Hi all

Does anyone know if upington has Avgas or do they have a number I can call. I've tried their towers landline (which I normally use) but the last couple days it hasn't been connecting.

Thanks

Been there 2 weeks ago, just tell TWR that you require fuel on initial contact. Truck will fuel you at your parking space.

What does one do if you need fuel at Askham and Upington will not refuel your Jerry-cans?

Very few airports will provide fuel into anything but an aircraft due to liability reasons.
Airports are where it happens

Is this due to jerry-cans being more litigious than aircraft?

I don't get it. I had the same problem years ago when I flew a friend to Swakopmund to collect his Diamond Katana there. We had to borrow a pipe, siphon fuel from the plane into the cans, and then push the plane back to the pumps to fill it again. The fuel in the cans had come from the same pumps, but had to do the trip via the aircraft tanks.

Sometimes I have severe concerns about the sanity of some people who are "in aviation".

Agree - really stupid mentality driven by some regulation that an ignorant "expert" put together....

The reason, as urban legends go, that they don't want to throw avgas in jerry can, is because drag racers can then easilly get their hands on it. :)

But joking aside, so far no one send me packing yet when I show up at the pump with my 2 jerries and ask for just a little fuel to get my aerie off the ground.

Hi Rotor kop,

Contact James @ 082 808 1696 for fuel queries at FAUP. Very helpful - fast fuel service as well after landing.

Cheers
