Aircraft parts wash up on local beach - Transkei

This morning, a local person found some items that washed up on a beach on the Transkei coast near East London that looked like they could be from an aircraft. They sent the cell phone pics taken of these parts to one of our local aviators and the pics have been sent to our local ATC who will circulate them and notify the relevant authorities.

Can anyone identify perhaps what type of aircraft they are from?

Looks like only one piece - but big enough to easily identify. 777 flap track canoe perhaps?

If it is from MH 370 at least it looks more authentic with barnicles et al.

Maybe the front part of a B747 flap track canoe fairing? On second thoughts maybe not.

Interesting ? - (from me - still not MH370 - and I still don't believe it went into the sea.)
The comment that it could be a flap "canoe" is indicative of the fact that it appears to be "rounded". Could it not be part of a cowling from the S.A.A. Viscount (Rietbok) which crashed into the sea off East London "yonks ago" ? The first photo shows what looks like the radiator of an oil cooler ? - but it may well only be a crushed section of the Honeycomb structure ?

Those Rolls-Royce Dart Turboprops had long sleek engine cowlings.

My logic says 'no' not the Viscount because the Agulhas current generally runs South from East London and the Transkei coast is a little North of East London - however from my sea faring experience I have seen that as in clouds or wind, in water one current could curve inside another and whilst in one spot it may flow "there", at another and closer in, it may flow "here" ? So who knows ?? Whatever the part, It has sure taken long enough to beach. The type of structure may well indicate whether it should be linked to aviation or anything maritime ?

We go back 40 years, and I take your comments very serious .......

The Rietbok would not have had that type of fibre glass with honeycomb sandwich, their panels would have been aluminium. The linkage in that fairing indicates that it could be from a moveable sailboat type fairing but from which aircraft it's hard to say. Also remember there have been a few aircraft crashing in the Indian ocean, Helderberg and if I remember correctly an Air India B747.

Agree ....... the parts are probably from "modern" technology with the honeycomb ......
Fairing sounds logical - but without part nrs ...... you will have no certainty ......
The fairings on 777 / 747 etc. are too similar ........
Perhaps a nr on the "control" linkage !

My name is Aslam Khan from AAIB Malaysia. I am involved in the missing MH370 investigation.

The photos posted of the debris indicate that it is an Aircraft component. The profile looks like a wing to body fairing or flap track fairing. (As identified in subsequent postings)

PLEASE inform the person who found it to contact the South African CAA. Possible contact point could be the local airport and they could contact the duty officer at the CAA SA.

Appreciate if the DEBRIS can be placed in a plastic bag ( big garbage bag will work ) and then into a cardboard / carton box. We would like to examine it in detail to identify if it is from a B777 n possible link to MH370.
