Recently i was asked to ferry a 182rg for a excited new owner from Placo, where it came out of a pre-purchase.
I did a thorough pre-flight, jumped in with new owner, cranked but NIL. primed more and tried agin, NIL.
So i asked Placo guys who were standing there, to open cowl and check.
Top Plugs were out crankase and just lying on crankcase!!!!
Would i ever recommend them after that?

There was a time when folk would .. when their aircraft was for sale ..quote that it had always been maintained by Placo thereby potentially increasing its desirability :)

Heard a similar story about an owner whose aircraft was maintained by Placo after being re sprayed. The elevator was reinstalled without a split pin and was busy loosening. Another hour or so of flying and the owner would have been a statistic!

Saddest part is that there must have been 250 Cubs flying around Southern Africa at one time.

My motto is that when you are on top be very scared as from here you can only go down!!!

Took me five minutes of controlled breathing not to respond to that comment the way it deserved.

According to an old list I have there were 119 registered in SA. Dave Becker did tell me that a lot of the aircraft brought in to the country were used for spares. Quite a few were exported to neighboring countries as well

Sadly I have to agree with you. It seemed to have been suffering from poor management for a hell of a long time.

jim
So what does that say about Aero Club of SA ?
I have no idea. Does it say anything?

jim

Was/is the owner of Placo not the chair/president of Aero Club?
