FAA Foreign Licence + Medical Validation

Unread post by Hannes Moolman » Thu Jan 10, 2019 11:26 am

Good day all

Looking for some wisdom/advice on an urgent matter

I am planning to do hourbuilding in the US in early Feb. Visa, flight school, accommodation all set.
I sent my foreign licence + medical validation application in to the FAA yesterday, any chance of getting this within the next 4 weeks?

From the FAA website:
In addition to the procedures stated under Verification of Authenticity of Foreign License, Rating and Medical Certification above, airmen from Australia, Cyprus, Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand or the United Kingdom must contact their respective CAA to complete additional forms that are required PRIOR to providing the requested information to the Airmen Certification Branch.
Is this also required from holders of SACAA licences?
Did the FAA miss SA since I thought most of the British commonwealth countries are listed, how come SA is not listed?

Can anyone please advise on the procedure.

PS: I am in Germany and have to do any admin remotely.

Regards
Hannes

Hannes

Call the flight school in the USA and let them answer the questions.
They can also liaise with FAA - to avoid misunderstandings

this has been discussed before here, a search should find info.
iirc you have to request a license validation from the CAA which they send to the foreign authority.

Thanks JK.
According to their knowledge, I only need to submit the application form with my ppl and medical attached to the FAA airmen office.
However I don't want to run into any unforeseen administrative potholes due to missed information on the side of the school or the FAA, so I thought I would ask here just to be sure.
According to a thread on Avcom in 2018, there is some info required from the side of the CAA in SA. Just not sure if the FAA liaises with the SACAA or if I have to do this from my side.

Hannes...

Two things counting against you

1. FAA is closed due to Government Shutdown in the USA,

2. The FAA need to liase with CAA, to verify your Licence, this can take up to.... 🤔 Who knows?

So in short, sit amd wait it out and see what happens.

I started the Foreign Licence Verification process for the 2nd time on Monday.

All the best.

Hey monkeypilot

Never even thought about the shutdown. Doesn't look like its going to end soon too so I think its safe to change my flights.
Thanks for the info
