Avcom losing valuable contributors.

Unread post by Goose » Fri Feb 08, 2019 8:17 am

I think people on avcom who wants to share their passion for aviation just got sick and tired for the weird comments people are placing on avcom, and the moderators allow this. My feeling is that it is mainly youngsters, and it would be wise to force people to use their real names and cell number so that everybody can see who is making these weird comments on avcom and sometimes aggressive comments
Avcom is losing a lot of people that has made valuable contributions towards avcom.
As avcommers we should encourage each other and show respect to each other, but a lot of people they thrive on hurting people and making rude and aggressive comments.
Moderators can screen people by identifying them and their numbers before they are allowed to join.

Goose
I have asked numerous times to have my name changed to my real name.
If i make a comment people will know who i am.
It seems to be impossible.
should i just register as a new member.
Even asked Moderators without any feedback

Yes the Cemair debacle contained some extreme levels of abuse and very questionable remarks from some insiders specifically linked to one side of the affair. It had me withdraw from even opening the thread from a point onwards. So I agree with you on your statement.

Not knowing the history of the creation of AVCOM I can only assume that Peudonyms were encouraged or mandated from the start for posters to make comments and statements that they would otherwise not make if their identity was out there for all to see . Perhaps the administrators could enlighten me and others ? I do not mind if everyone knows that my name is Dave Mortimer because I am happy to stand by whatever I post .

I would think that many professional pilots would not want their real identities exposed. I'm past that so I have no problem.

I think a way around this is the MODERATORS do a progamme to allow personal details such as name and maybe contact details of the Pseudonyms on the bottom of each post or below the Pseudonyms name.
I am sure with technology of today this is achievable.

This topic pops it's head up from time to time. A simple search should find a history of the concepts.
This tends to happen after some contentious topics that got a bit out of hand.
No disrespect meant, but often posts are based on emotion or a "belief" where there is little to validate the concept, and in these instances some seem to run out of the ability to either put forward their point in a balanced or objective manner and then resort to playing the man or by trying to dismiss commentary based on the "I am more experienced than you" methodology.

Anyone, whether for or against a point should be able to justify a position logically and rationally.
When unable to do so, this usually ends up with offence being taken and complaining to mommy that the other kiddies aren't playing nice ;)
Personally, I have failed dismally on some occasions, so will work on that but it is important to remember that this is the nature of an online forum, something we attend voluntarily.
Complaining about it won't change the ecosystem, nor blaming the poor mods that take a beating daily.
Accept it for what it is and adapt or don't take part.
We live in divisive times, where no one wants to believe anything they see unless it agrees with their own beliefs.
If you need a reset on how civilised avcom actually is, go spend some time following twitter and even facebook (where actual names are used (they could also be fake, so don't assume because you see a name it is real)).

Leave it be, we have been over this time and time again. AvCom has been around for 15+ years and we have lost and gained members all the time. Nobody is irreplaceable (although some might think they are! ). Nothing stops someone from registering using a bogus name, the mods and administrators don't have time to police all this. Eventually we all know who the real persons are.

If you don't like what someone posts or don't like a thread, move along swiftly, you are not being forced to read it.

Some people need to get over themselves.

While I post under ALL my names  I'm sure there are, for example, working airline pilots that wouldn't want to post for professional reasons if their names were bandied about in public. Others may own businesses that could be adversely affected. It does allow some to express themselves more freely than they would otherwise do and that can only be good thing.

Johan every year there is a window to change your name and I pretty sure it is coming up again shortly. You need to place your request during this period and it will be done with pleasure. :D

Avcom don't allow a person to have more than one handle and if it is pointed out to then, and verified, all the names relating to that person will be banned.

My "real name" is Wooly Cockburn. (Now do you see why I don't want to use it here?)
