Nampo 2019

Unread post by Marck » Wed Mar 13, 2019 10:29 pm

Hi Fellow Aviators

I am thinking of flying in for Nampo this year. Has anyone flown in to Nampo? I have a question or 2

What is the runway like?

Joining amd Landing procedures?

Is there temp atc for the duration and finaly frequency

Thanks
Looking for AC.

If you push the stick forward, the houses get bigger. If you pull the stick back, they get smaller. That is, unless you keep pulling the stick all the way back, then they get bigger again

Gras strip with few holes here and there. Depends on type of plane. Not bad. Usually ATC but can be extremely busy. Great to fly there.

Thanks for the info. How do they handle traffic? Normally one would call 10nm out. Do they follow this practice?

I see all the info etc on their website but would like to know if the airfield will be in better condition as last year? Guess for big planes not too bad but a bit worried about my Jabiru. Think it was last year one had a prop strike due to the "gras polle"

I think I will wait for later in the week after some guys landed there and can give good feedback

It is clear that the information on this site was not prepared by anyone with aviation knowledge.

They don't even mention runway direction

We usually fly in from the Saturday before, will post info on condition here once we’ve seen. Runway itself is actually usually not so bad, more the parking area that’s a bit rough. The biggest issue is meerkat holes that get filled up before the show, but not compacted properly, if I’m not mistaken this is what happened with the propstrike, cloee to the run up pad...

It’s great fun
ATC is good
No fuel
Enough parking
Strip is fine
Runway is sort of east west
Check it out on google

Flying in on Monday morning with a Jab 4, will post something after landing. I'm taking off the spat's again like last year because if strip is in same condition it will be damaged.

I flew in yesterday in an Explorer, with 21” Tyres, the runway is bumpy but didn’t see any holes. The grass is cut. A few holes at the run up pad have been filled in with sand. No windsocks. Any aircraft with marginal prop clearance should be wary.
