Submitted ATF on 08/02/21,

Received some questions on the paperwork on 23/02/21, all cleared up over email same day, and "ready for collection" email received today.

14 working days. It's not brilliant, but better than some it seems. Thing is, if it only actually takes 2 days to do the paperwork including queries, what was happening for the other 12 days...

General Notice
GA Pilot’s, Aircraft owners and Supporters

If you know of anyone or you, yourself, have any delays or no response from the SACAA regarding overdue ATF or N/PPL Renewals, Please email
jonty@promptroofing.co.za the following:
EMAIL SUBJECT - ATF and/or N/PPL Renewal OVERDUE
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your contact number
- Licence no or Reg of AC
- Date of application
- Type of application (personal lic or ATF)
- A short description with the correspondence of each attempt to contact them and the response (each line with date, and response will help a lot)
If you can add who ( the inspector or senior manager you trying to contact even better. The more Info the better.). We will take this up with the CAA
to expedite these renewals.

Note that all we are attempting to do is to is to ensure we obtain the published service standards – there is the question that the service standards are
too long, that will be a discussion for the future, right now we need the CAA to uphold the published delivery terms.
Does anybody know if Jonty or Rob are still assisting with overdue ATF's? I did what was mentioned above but I have had no response from them.

All documents perfectly in place on 13 January 2021.
Collected my ATF last Friday - 44 days.
ATF date issued shows date of issue - 25 January 2020 (I assume it should have been 2021).
Anyway, that means it stood on a manager's desk (confirmed by CAA "handler") from 25 January untill 26 February.
More concerning - at the Registration desk, you can look into their office. Boxes are stacked on the floor, files are littered in stacks. I would not do business with such a company if I had to buy tomatoes, bread, spare parts or bricks from them.

Unfortunately I cannot go to their opposition.

Monday thoughts:

As there is very little we can do to the service at CAA let us at least do what we can do to mitigate the costs of a/c ownership while we wait for the re-issue of whatever it is we are waiting for.

When your document expires and you are not allowed to aviate with you aircraft please contact your insurance broker and ask them to place your aircraft on ground risk only from the date.
Then do remember to make the reverse call when you need the insurance again.

Maybe, just maybe, if we manage to inflict enough financial pain on the SANTAM's of the world, they will have a word with the administrator on our behalf.

So when we get really good service from (individuals at) CAA, we should give compliments too.

Sent in the change of ownership documents last week, this Monday I contacted Monica, I have known her since 1996, and a few minutes later she confirmed it was all done! Yesterday evening I receive an e-mail from her telling us that we can collect the certificate.

Great service from her as always, well done! =D> =D> =D>

I have had great service from the CAA as well. All it took was a little planning. My ATF expires at the end of March ‘21. My AMO started the ATF renewal application in January. They completed the MPI this Monday, 8 March and we received notice from the CAA today, 10 March that the renewed ATF is ready for collection. The existing ATF was still valid for a few more weeks.

I could not be happier with either the brilliant support from my AMO (Sideslip Aviation Worx @ Morningstar) or from the brilliant service from the SACAA.

Submitted my Transfer of Ownership on 17 Feb 2021, along with the required documents and PoP. I am getting the silent treatment though...

(and yes, I have copied in the relevant people incl. Monica, Tiny, Registrations, Caroline, etc.)

After speaking a few times to the inspector handling my case with not much luck (no urgency or willingness to follow up), I spoke to Ms/ MRS Palesa Mthabela, she instantly followed up and phone me back in less than 5 minutes letting me know that my ATF was ready for collection, she even e-mailed me a scanned copy :D . A big shout out to Palesa =D>

Danny,

Fantastic! Now the question has to be, why did the "inspector" not act on your requests? :x

Hello Whirly

I think it just boils down to willingness, he was done with it and was now at the next step... not his problem anymore.

I fetched my green ATF paper at the CAA today and Palesa was there. I once again thanked her for her assistance, while I was waiting to be helped she was busy helping someone else, she has a friendly demeanor, she took time to explain to the individual what to do next to get his ATF, she was polite and patient. We need more like her.

Headed for a similar time frame for me. Received an email to say my medical had expired. Had to explain that my medical renewal was conducted the same day as the paperwork was submitted and that the new CAA system actually generates my class 1. There appears to be a breakdown in communication between the Aviation medical department and licensing. Then my licence renewal included an additional aircraft rating/familiarisation application which confused the person processing my application. So, three weeks later and no licence yet.
