License Renewal After Expiry (5 Years later)

Unread post by Pappajoe » Sun Jun 27, 2021 6:46 pm

Hi All,

I was clever enough to let my Com expire about five years ago which obviously included the expiry of my PPL :roll:. I want to get back into flying and need to know if there is a quick way of getting my PPL or do i have to follow the original curriculum again?

Thanks,

(b)

in the case of a holder of a PPL where the maintenance of competency has lapsed by more than 36 months, the licence holder shall be required to—

(i)

rewrite the Air Law examination;

(ii)

undergo sufficient ground and flight training at an approved ATO to reach the standard required for the revalidation check of a PPL(A), and meet the recency requirements to act as PIC; and

(iii)

pass an initial licence skills test in the same category of aircraft;

Do you think the same will apply if PPL expired 20 years ago. Was a student and could not afford keeping it current

I was in the same situation five years ago. I had to rewrite all the exams and do another ten hours of flight training, and redo the PPL test.

Fortunately your previous hours do count so you don't need to do another 45 hours, but I did find it took a while to get back into it - especially the radio procedures.
