Virginia airport development😎

Unread post by pietmeyer » Mon Jul 19, 2021 10:46 am

After seeing all the planes fly in to Virginia airport carrying supplies and people to help KZN after a week of rioting/terrorism, imagine not having FAVG there to receive all these planes. Spoke to staff there and seeing that the city still requested landing fees for humaniterian flights, do you all think that they might consider any future plans to close FAVG?
During this time, the importance of having a functional GA airport could not have been better displayed. Hope that when talks pop up again of closing FAVG, this past week will be remembered and such plans canned .
Well done to all who helped carry food and supplies this past week. =D>

Demanding landing fees from humanitarian flights just goes to show the indescribable greed of those in the municipality.

Absolutely despicable bunch

Absolutely nothing ne about African officials wanting their share of fees due. I clearly remember flying aid into Maputo during the severe flooding there when the lady gave birth in a tree.

They wanted full landing and approach fees and customs wanted their due on all the donated goods that we were flying in at no cost to the country. As we did not have commercial invoices for the donated goods so took them home.

I believe there was a warehouse in Nelspruit that ended up with a huge amount of donated goods that were eventually given to locals because Mozambique want the taxes due.

very sad that people offer their time, services and donate hard earned goods and government don't give the proverbial

At least Margate took a different approach - landed there after hours and filled in the landing form with contact details. Friendly call from airport manager this morning and once I explained it had been an aid flight he thanked me for my "service" and scrapped the landing fee!

Really Virginia you ought to do the same!!!!

I must say I felt just a little done in having to pay R400 odd for landing fees after spending from my pocket on flying food and supplies in for the people in the area.

Its not the R400, its the principle, its just exploiting the situation

Shame on you Durban administrators

Reluctant to comment given the stick I got on the FALA fees thread but.....

Agree. The airport made a killing from those flying stuff in. Not Ayoba at all.

There's a field further south at umkomaas, wowflight.co.za. If I'm not mistaken he doesn't charge landing fees. But you'll have to contact him. Thank you pilots who came to us.

Mrb you are entitled to air an opinion so dont mind the avcommers blasting you. Its the way it is. Dont let them get to you.

Margate management, good on you, thats the spirit in which we all got involved in this effort.

Airztel, unfortunately Umkomaas is a microlight airfield, grass runway way to short for some of us and no Avgas or Jet A1 so getting food to the good people of Durban we sort of had to go to Virginia

Some fly weight shift microlights. Others fly Boeing 737/747/757/767/787 or Airbus 320/330/340/350/380 and the rest fly all the others in between. Some fly army aircraft, others just Wannabee.

If you are going to carry any significant weight then you will fly something that needs a bit of runway. Me I need a hard surface of 1000m or more :|
