Agreed. We are all praising the CAA for processing a license in 4 days when I used to walk in, hand in my documents and after 1 or 2 cups of coffee I would walk out with my new one.

We have become so used to incompetence that we praise a 4 day turnaround.

What used to be 30-60 minutes is now 4 or 5 days and for some reason we are happy about this.

Give praise where it is due. I have submitted my CofA documents on 25/7/21 to the CAA and it was confirmed on 29/7/21 it has been issued and ready for collection. Not even 4 full working days!!!!!
Thank you Kevin Chetty and Lebogang Manamela. Make us pilots proud! Keep it up.
It used to be done in 1 hour....? Our sheep like acceptance is the reason for this rubbish - enjoy the 2 trips bruh (used to have to deliver originals, dunno if that's coming back)

**note your AMO is the competent one, no regulation prevents CAA from training the floor sweeper to swing the rubber stamp. (the alleged reason for some of the delays is sign offs by a high ranking bottleneck - there is no requirement in the regs. also no need for assuming you & your AMO are criminals)
Its an improvement so come on give some credit... I used to also buy Chappies for 0.5c but that also doesnt happen any longer...

Presumably you guys are talking about SACAA Midrand.

2 February this year I contacted the SACAA CPT branch to register a 406 ELT HexCode (loaded by Aircraft Spruce) for my yet to be completed RV-9 ZU-IPG. On the same day I applied for a new Radio Station licence on the ICASA website.

The good news is I now have the 5 year licence issued by ICASA. It only took 3 months, about 30 emails and a complaint to the relevant section.

The bad news is the SACAA CPT branch 'dropped the ball,' then a month later realised that ZU-IPG did not appear on 'the system.' All relevant documentation supplied enabling the SACAA to add the aircraft to 'the system' this took another month or two. I also tried to add ADSB In/Out but am not too sure about that as there is no form, no fee...

My last communication to them was exactly 2 months ago today: this was the reply...

Good Day Sir,

Apologies, I have lost sight of this one.
I have requested the relevant department to load the aircraft registration on our systems.

I will endeavour to confirm the ELT registration and hex codes by tomorrow.

Kind Regards,

I guess he dropped the ball again...

I was trying to cover all bases so as to make things easier when I eventually apply for a Proving Flight Authority, but being proactive seems not to work. A reminder will be sent on Monday.

Yesterday I applied for a 30 day extension for my CPL/IR which expires at the end of August.
I received the extension less than 24 hrs later……Thank you Amanda!

I hate to be a cynic - but is it remotely possible that this has anything to do with the audit?

I don’t think so. They have generally been pretty efficient when it comes to extensions.

It’s when they have to process paperwork that things take a few days and they get the real praises for arranging it in 5 working days

Jim PEL is generally improving however I am not sure if the same can be said for other divisions. People incorrectly refer to the term FAA audit or EASA audit. An audit is where an organizations finances are checked for correct accounting practices and fraud etc.

The FAA are currently carrying out an assessment. This is to check that we are operating to correct standards in order to allow our scheduled operations into their country.
It is a pass/fail assessment with serious consequences if there are significant findings. I don’t think it affects private or non scheduled operations.

PS we should also remember that there are quite a few really dedicated CAA personel who go the extra mile to provide good service.

Also have been having very good service and quick turn around times with the CAA. And the fact that your license can't be done on the same day anymore is an ICAO issue and nit really the CAA

Further to my positive posts the past few years, i once again had a very good experience with SACAA. I submitted documents, received a prompt email stating all what all her que'd jobs where and she estimated 20 working days for me to recieve my stuff....well 3 days later i recieved an email from her asking for me to resend one of the documents as it did not come out properly on her side. I re-sent it and was greeted with an email the following day saying my stuff has be completed and approved =D> =D> I have no complaints :D Keep it up =D> =D>

I have just recently applied for my new licence after purchasing a half share in a Bantam.

I just want to give a huge shout out to Cindy from Midrand and Rachel from Rand Airport. They did a fantastic job and were very helpful at all times. I received my new card licence and would just like to say that, if the SACAA employed more people of the caliber of these two ladies, it would run like a well oiled machine.

I have sent them each an individual email thanking them, but felt it would be better to acknowledge them on a public platform. =D>

MODS

Is this not perhaps time to remove or store elsewhere the pinned negative first
post under General for non performance of SACAA
Looks like they are really trying their best to help and produce.
Give them a chance to prove they can keep the positive comments up.

Glad to hear some are lucky.
All my renewal documents were submitted on 19 July already and to date, nothing received. :(
