Re: Rotax 532 powered KR2
Hi Craig,
What is the name of the paint/product that you used for the interior of your KR2? Do you know where this can be purchased from? It looks excellent, to say the least.
Just an update: The flu had the most of me, so no real progress made as yet. However, I've now purchased all my aluminium requirements for the engine mount. The engine vibration/mounting rubbers should reach me before this weekend. I've also purchased the original KR2 wheels with brakes. I think I'm going to change her into a nosewheel configuration.
Uploaded a few nice KR2 pics over here.
Below is how I'm going to aim for her interior to look like. Anyone knows a reputable company that can re-create this? The other pic shows the colour scheme I have in mind for now.
I'll most probably go for the same engine mount & nose wheel configuration I created before...
Cheers all,
Henni

Re: Rotax 532 powered KR2
Hi all,
Finally my idea is coming together. This KR2 offspring will be extremely light, will have NO cg issues, wil be roomier inside than any other KR2 that I know of, and the two stroke engine will fit into the existing VW cowling.
She'll probably stall under 40mph and cruise around 130mph two up for most of the time. I can't wish for more without being wealthy first...
Cheers all,
Henni

Re: Rotax 532 powered KR2
Hi all,
Slowly but surely my idea is coming together.
Next is to make the seats fit properly side by side, hinge them to the forward spar, hang them to the rear tube & make the slots for the control sticks.
Then I'll start to cut away most of the forward deck and to make the brand new radically widened canopy with the nice & wide window sills on either side. Yes, the arms of both pilot & passenger will be completely above and outside of the existing fuselage with the canopy closed! This will be a FULL two place KR2 offspring - that's the whole idea!
Front of the canopy will be like the original Swearinghan SX300 & rear like the BX Cherry.
So... I think she'll weigh in at under 500lbs empty (- remember that I've gained 70 to 90lbs just by my engine choice alone -), maybe even less, be much, much wider inside than a standard KR2, have absolutely NO cg issues, with the VGs stall at 40mph or less, have GREAT visibility and cruise in the region of 120 to 130mph. If I can get to those I'll be a happy chappy.
Caption below pics says it all. More over at Microlighters...
Cheers,
Henni

Re: Rotax 532 powered KR2
Finally!
I fit with ease. And so will Monica. Everything is starting to come together. My arm will be in that position with the canopy closed. Soon I'll start on the canopy. The instrument panel will fit to the front of the remaining turtle deck. No need for a centre console. Also, I can still move the rudder pedals forward without cutting open the firewall.
I'm a six footer & I fit comfortably. My whole idea is starting to pay off. The canopy won't be all that much wider. it'll start at the original position at the front & rear turtle deck & widen to the outside of my arm only.
Keep well all,
Henni

Re: Rotax 532 powered KR2
Hi everyone,
Does anyone perhaps have a link available of any more detail on how to make these:
http://www.love4aviation.com/DYNAERO/Te ... +2003.html
I can come up with a rough idea, but I'm sure there is a better way. How is the forward airfoil of the flap made & how is it attached to the rear section? I guess it would be the same as the leading edge slats on some microlights. If someone can share how those are made and attached to the rest of the wing, it would also help.
Yes, I'm aware of the serious trim changes caused by these, however I'm still interested in giving it some more thought. The Black Shape aircraft uses the same, and so do many other designs like i.e the Pilatus PC6.
Cheers all,
Henni
