PS - This plane is an absolute ball to fly. The stubby wings absorb the bumps nicely. Controls are responsive but still have good feel. And it is obscenely powerful.

Heh... Haven't updated this thread for a while. Replaced the XCOM radio with a MGL v6, and the radio problems were at east temporarily solved. Net result is this:

Since then, I have been getting my *rse kicked in some serious turbulence these past few weekends. These little wings certainly ride the bumps better than most, but perhaps flying mid-afternoon in 36C temps is not the best idea... At least I know it can take some punishment ;) .

New radio issue cropped up on Saturday - picking up a lot of ignition noise on the radio. Other people can hear me fine, but I can barely hear them. Need to get this sorted out ASAP if I want to fly away on holiday this year...

Comms were excellent until this last flight. I think it is one of the Jabiru bug-bears coming to bite me (rotor/dizzy cap arcing, or something similar). Will go over the entire ignition system on Saturday morning.

Largely fixed. Replaced the antenna cable with mil-spec, and most of the ignition noise went away. Still some, but only really noticable 100nm+ from station.

Been a slow month. Found some cracks on the front gear top bracket, so been doing some metal work. Inspection tomorrow, then paperwork, then I can fly again.

130 hours so far, and this is the first real issue.

Could have sworn I took a photo before I started work, but apparently not...

This is after I cut off the cracked material. The crack ran horizontally just below the corner. The material was so badly work hardened, it shattered when I cut it! Apparently cracks in this area are quite common.
