Wings Park is situated 15 miles north east of East London. Do Google it. Grass runways with 19 hangers and huge Boma. Lots of Avgas and Mogas. Jet A1 can be arranged on request. Main runway 1000metres secondary 650 metres. ? Short cross runway for trikes in tricky north wind 350 metres. Lots of friendly people and great spirit.

If you are still thinking about attending - This airfest is a MUST - In addition to the many aishow aircraft displays, the Silver Falcons as well as a Gripon Fighter and several other military aircraft will be doing several performances.

The Wings Park airfield will be under ATC control for the duration - please see the pilot & visitor's brief below....
17 May 2017

Dear Pilot & visitors to Wings Park

The AirFest this year contains an airshow element and therefore for legal reasons, falls under the control of ASSA and thus they will have control of the airfield and surrounding airspace for the duration of the AirFest.

What does all this mean?

• A notam has been issued for the event (See notam at end)
• ATNS will provide ATC services for the duration of the event and for validations of pilots on Friday during the day
• ATC will control all traffic into and out of Wings Park during the AirFest (Therefore Wings Park is NOT an unmanned airfield, but CONTROLLED airspace for the duration of the event with a dedicated frequency 120.2)
• During displays ASSA (The Flight Display Director = FDD) will have sole control of the display box, which will be south of runway 09/27
• ASSA Ramp Controller, assisted by BAC Volunteers (rated pilots x 8 ), will enforce the crowd line and take control of all airside movements
• The flight program is pre-determined and no ad-hoc flights or displays will be allowed.

Should you wish to fly your aircraft or take friends for a flip over the airfest week-end in or out of Wings Park, then we strongly suggest that you attend the pilot’s briefing on Friday afternoon to get a clearer picture of how you will be accommodated and how the protocol will work.

Resident aircraft owners, please sort out all fueling needs before Saturday to keep the fuel bay clear during the AirFest for display & visiting aircraft. (Refueling on Friday before or after the Pilot’s briefing is recommended)

AIRFEST ENTRY: Shareholders are given free entry for the event (Access protocol already sent to shareholders) for ALL other visitors, the entry fee is R70 per adult and R30 per child under 12. (Please proceed to the gate entry to obtain tickets)

Marshals will control public movement to prevent them from wandering around hangars outside of public areas.

Rob Williamson has provided a plan of the event with key. As with last year, traffic will enter at the main gate and leave through the bottom gate. The marshal will extend parking up to cross-runway if required:

- Participating aircraft that will be based at WP will be parked in the area marked "Sanitised airside" (SAAF Falcons & Gripen will operate from FAEL)
- MX Extreme ramp will be aligned with the west edge of Taxiway Alpha (last year it was on Alpha)
- Public, stalls, beertent, displays, static a/c, etc will all be accommodated in the area marked "Public areas" and Mike Wienk's hangar.
- Visiting aircraft will be positioned on vacant plots, etc, as last year

EMS services will be parked alongside Boma on west side, and will leave through the gate marked "EMS Egress" on the plan in the event of an incident/accident.

Overnight security will be provided, and all stalls will be locked in Mike Wienk's hangar.

Gates open at 0900 on Sat & Sun and we expect the flying displays to be over latest 1600. Sat evening may see some activity in the beer tent after 1600, as music has been provided.

Sunday will see the Dispatch MTB Challenge starting 0800 and ending around 1300. Track starts and ends at WP, and Dispatch has asked for some fence channeling to be in place on Taxiway Bravo, for the finishers.

Boma use:
- Saturday: downstairs for AirFest VIP's / upstairs for ATC/VOC & FDD (Venue Operational Centre) / Announcers
- Sunday: downstairs for Dispatch / upstairs as per Sat

BAC AirFest staffing will be responsible for cleanup and logistics at all times.

We trust that you will all have a fun and most enjoyable time

Blue Skies & see you all at the event….
