Is this on Satureday?

What times?

Maybe give the good folks here who are not familiar with the joining procedures at FABB a heads up?

This would be the same weekend as the Wonderboom Airshow.
If arriving by car ... please remember the battery powered angle grinder in case Minnie does not answer your call
:) I do hope to visit FABB real soon and take some pics :)

Without insulting Goose, his information is a bit scant, considering FABB is inside the CTR of ORT Intl. "Go to" on your GPS is likely to get you into trouble, so it's important to be aware of the airspaces, local features and procedures to avoid hassles with our neighbor, ORT. It's not rocket-science either, so no need to be scared off.
FABB info: 122.70 (Brakpan Traffic) Runway 1800 M if you backtrack, 1600 M Threshold to threshold. Elevation 5300', Circuits flown at 6000' (700' agl). 18/36 - No circuits on Western side ( 36 is a RH pattern). There is a railway line North of the Airfield joining Benoni and Boksburg - except for an emergency, do not cross this line when on the base leg for 18, or after take -off on 36. 36 is a slight uphill, with no emergency landing area, so for a X/W, or even slight tail-wind, 18 is preferred for T/O, where there are more open areas too.
Entry and exit points for FABB are the Jan Smuts Dam (to/from N & E), and ERGO slimes dam (to/from S & W). You must be at 6000' (FAOR QNH - ATIS frequency 126.20). Jan Smuts Dam is presently a Hyacinth lake, and borders the Brakpan CBD. Be aware of Springs Airfield (122.40) in case you will be flying through their circuit, which are all on the Western side of their runways 03/21. You won't need to talk to them unless you approach/depart East. If approaching from N/E (Daveyton direction), be at 6000' at Jan Smuts Dam, and head 270 deg. Say goodbye to SRE 125.4, and tell Brakpan TFC 122.7 your position inbound and intentions - maybe you know the wind, and which runway you intend using. You could also request "any traffic in the circuit/RWY in use?" As you head West, you will see the hangars. Do NOT join overhead, but join the circuit Left D/W 18 or Right D/W 36 ( The new white-coloured Makro is a good marker for the downwind leg - roof is covered with solar panels). Call Left D/W 18 or Right D/W 36, then continue and land as normal. Remember, you're only 700 AGL, so descent will only start on final approach.
Departing to the East is also at 6000', JHB QNH, and once past Jan Smuts Dam, you may climb further.
Approach from W or S, you need to enter at 6000' (JHB QNH) on WESTERN side of ERGO slimes dam (This is for lateral separation, as departing traffic exits on East side). Call Brakpan Traffic, 122.7, telling them you're at Ergo Slimes dam, 6000', and will call overhead hangars next. Head +- 020 deg and if Airfield not visual, use Carnival City initially as a target till hangars come into sight, then aim for the hangars. Do not fly to Carnival City, as at that point you will conflict with traffic on the extended 36 app or 18 T/off. Fly overhead the hangars, turn E for a mid-field crossing, joining L D/W 18, or R D/W 36. Departure off 18, continue Rwy track towards East side of Ergo slimes dam, and say goodbye to Brakpan TFC, hello to SRE on 125.4. Departure off 36, turn right for the R/H pattern, head for East side of Ergo, ditto the rest.
Easy-peasy!
Good airmanship requires appropriate RT, keep your TXPDR on "ALT" 2000 so JHB don't get twitchy. It is not law, but I call INFO on 119.5 when I'm inbound to put them at rest. Outbound, I don't bother, as they can see I'm going away from their airspace. Hope it's all clear as mud, but if further info required, please shout.
I can vouch for the good food!
Keep it safe

Do you have to bring your own chain or will they be issued on arrival?
