We do not have avgas readily available at Himeville, except for what individual owners keep on hand. The closest airfield with avgas is Pietermaritzburg. (47nm down the road)

Great stuff Raw. If you haven't already, please just email or text Grant Beattie (contact details in the poster posted earlier) just so he can keep track of numbers.

Looking forward to having you guys down with us in the mountains.

Chaps,

Just a quick thanks from all of us down here in the mountains. We really enjoyed having you all here with us and we hope you enjoyed your visit.

To those who flew from far - we especailly appreciate your trouble and efforts to come to our out of the way little grass strip.

If do you have ideas or suggestions for improvements, please let us know.

The turnout was higher than I expected .. I did not do a count .. but somewhere between 40 and 50 :)
In my opinion Himeville is a great airfield for a fly with potential to expand ... and lots of interesting places / to stay / visit for spouses not as interested in aviation ... much like the Margate Fly ins of old

Given the potential for a cross wind .. as happened today ... and with the crosswind runway being blocked by parked aircraft ... another solution needs to be thought out. Is it possible to build another cross runway ? .. reason being that even if the cross runway did not have parked aircraft on it the landings would still have been too close to spectators.

Airmanship of the day award goes to the Bantam ZU-JEF who after two approaches, decided the crosswind component exceeded what either he or the airplane was happy with ... and diverted =D> =D> A tough call to make when the other aircraft he had arrived with (different aircraft type) .. did make it in.

Overall impression ...the Fly-in put Himeville on the map for me and I would very much like to visit again
Congrats to the organizers ... and for the folk that did not make it there this year ... go the extra mile to make it next year... you will be glad you did

Brian Spurr will have those -- I am sure he will post some stuff up sometime soon.
I saw him busy taking shots at the YAK with the the "clown" who paid R1000.00 for the flip
( ticket winner sold his winning ticket for funds )
Very interesting day -- with a few minor disasters and one major one
Got there really early and bumped into Brian who suggested we go down to the threshold but we all forgot our hats.
Turned into a very hot and hazy morning and once the morning muesli got working I had to track all the way back to the hangars to discover ........
The ONE SINGLE sit down loo -- reserved for the ladies // WELL IF I was a lady I would have been VERY skeptical of using it preferring to take a quick five minute drive into Himeville

The haze was not very conducive to nice photos ( I am sure Brian has a couple though ) WHAT has happened to the seasons and the weather ?
After the heat and a burned red face and the camera disaster I did not get any stationary / static shots -- I am sure Gary has some

The major disaster

The mirror on my old CANON 5D Mk1 came lose and fell off
Appears this is a factory problem and there was a recall to fix this ( see above video )
One wonders if CANON SA will honour this ?
( Camera always lived nicely wrapped up in a big cloth inside a proper camera bag -- never mishandled )

Met Jason very friendly chap -- and his MAULE -- and his wife ( both stunning :) )
I will be sure to check in at the airstrip next time I am in the vicinity

Second the comment and observation re the crosswind and crosswind run way - poor BANTAM

For those who use social media:
A couple of pics on our page
https://www.facebook.com/rawaviation/?fref=ts

This fly-in put Himeville on the map for us. Great strip and even better people. Next time we will fly down for the whole weekend so that we have more time to explore the area (by car and by air).
Thanks again to the organisers and locals!
