Flying Sites

Unread post by kacee » Tue Jan 17, 2012 9:02 am

Hi

I am a Samaa Member and belongs to a flying club and mainly fly Nitro planes..I have 2 x electric park flyers which one is always in the back of my car and always going on Holiday with me....

I do not always have the time to go the the airfield as it is a bit far from where I stay so I take this little parkflyer to the sports ground a block away from where I stay and fly there,There is not always a lot of people and there is some other guy's flying there as well,I have time share next to the vaal river and go there often and next to the house is a open piece of land with no trees and electric wires and the only humans there is us and I take this opportunity to fly there also..

I was on holiday now over the festive season in Port Edward and there was some evenings where there was no one on the beach and I took the opportunity to fly...

My Question is - - - - Can I fly at these sports grounds and open fields...

Regards

Hi Willem,

Legally, you are allowed to fly almost anywhere as long as you do not exceed 50' AGL, do not cross any public road, or fly at night. By "almost" , I mean areas outside of CTR and/or 5Nm from full size aerodromes.

From a SAMAA safety perspective, we recommend that you only fly an electric powered "park flyer" model, i.e. not exceeding 1kg, all up, and not within 5km of any existing registered SAMAA airfield.

The SAMAA office is also able to identify flying sites within your area that you may not be aware of, to reduce your travelling times & costs.

Regards,
Lionel Brink
