New air field

Unread post by craig-oosthuizen » Tue Jan 17, 2012 8:02 pm

Im thinking about building a new airstrip/club for electric planes and was wondering what costs are involved in registering the club? and does it need to be registered straight away? as I would like to get a bit of a member database before doing all the paper work to register the field.

Hi Craig,

There are no "administrative" costs for SAMAA members to register new flying sites. There is some paperwork that ATNS, RAASA & CAA require, but the SAMAA office will also assist you with completing this. Please be advised that all new sites requests are subject to ATNS / RAASA approval before submission to the CAA - SAMAA also ensures that this process is followed & that any anomolies are identified & addressed to the satisfaction of all authorising parties.

Please contact Bob Skinner at the SAMAA Office on 011 973 3679 to obtain immediate clarity & advise on your registration process.

Regards,
Lionel Brink

Craig, just a heads up from our experience is that this process can take a long time; about a year in our case from the date we've submitted all the required docs. In fact, we are still awaiting the final confirmation from SAMAA after a mix up with the field co-ordinates submitted to RAASA by SAMAA. Lionel kindly assisted us, so it's good to keep him in the loop throughout the process.
