Unread post by DZK2011 » Thu Feb 09, 2012 11:32 am

My question is, where in midrand can I do parkflying? I have a few electric Models (None exeeding a wingspan of 1200mm). I am in the Glen Austen Midrand area.

Thanks!

Hi,

We can assist you by pointing out clubs in the Midrand region (e.g JOMAC) but park flying does not form a official part of SAMAA & you need to be aware of the limits imposed by CAA instituted legislation that has nothing to do with SAMAA:

1. You may not fly above 50'
2. You may not over fly any public road
3. You may not fly at night

From a safety perspective, SAMAA recommends not exceeding 1kg all up weight, electric powered only & no pylon racers/high speed when flying in a park & fly to avoid members of the public/property at all times.

Also, at SAMAA registered clubs, you get the benefit of advise from instructors/senior pilots, social & practical encouragement of like minded individuals & considerable relaxation of he above restrictions.

Nerf is in Kelvin see: http://g.co/maps/j2xg8. The dots in the field are their heli launch pads, and the construction site next to it is their now completed runway. According to their site, their membership is frozen at the moment. They are the closest to Midrand at 16Km, the next closest is a toss-up between Irene or White-Hills (18km) depending on where in Midrand you are. JOMAC is 23Km away.

I think, though that you should visit each club, and choose the club that best suits your personality, rather than your geographic location.

Hi,

My apologies for the delay - last nights storm took out all my connectivity. I have the following clubs registered in or around Midrand:

1. North Eastern Radio Flyers (NERF) contact Dean Grobelaar at Aerial Concepts
2. Irene Radio Flyers contact Andre Killian at www.irf.co.za
3. White Hills Radio Flyers (WHRF) contact Daan Grobler at www.whitehills.co.za
4. Johannesburg Model Aircraft Club (JOMAC) contact Steve Savy at www.jomac.co.za

The next grouping of clubs may be a bit further out:

Barnstormers, Pretoria Radio Flyers, Silverton Model Aircraft Club

Let me know if you are unable to contact the above clubs

Regards,
Lionel

Steve is no longer chairman. Andy Meyer at jomacadmin@gmail.com is the current chairman.
