First engine run after installation. The Rotax is running very smooth...
Lyk baie goed, watse prop het jy daar op?

Wou ook vra, is die VW nie swaarder as die Rotax nie? Indien wel moes die Rotax nie meer vorentoe geskuif wees nie?
Hi Jaco

Dis n Arplast prop.

So today i installed the brakes and also sanded and primed the drop tank. Lookin’ good...

The brakes were not functional at all and i installed new Matco master cylinders. The calipers were reused. They are now working properly.

Today i started working on the cowling mods. I will post some pics later, as i want to have more progress before posting pics.

The cowl is taking shape nicely, but looks a bit rough at the moment (as with all cowling mods). I have to make substantial changes to accommodate the Rotax engine.

The cowling will be more streamlined than the standard cowl, taking away a lot of unnecessary drag. The Rotax is much narrower than the VW engine, which allows this improvement.

The lockdown is just restraining my resources as i need some consumables which we cannot currently buy anywhere..

So while I am awaiting to get some consumables to continue with the cowling mod, I installed some stainless steel heel plates on the floor panels. They are very smooth and allows ones feet slide to easily.

Hi. I got plenty done and is now happy to share some pics of the progress.

I used the old cowl as a starting point and modified it to fit around the engine. The Rotax allowed me to narrow down the cowl quite a bit, which will reduce drag.

I wanted to do something different, to have some of the old Sonerai looks but add some new flavour.. so the plug i made have a bit of the Sonerai but also a more modern “turbine” look...

So here i cut the old cowl
