The Sonex Aerovee Turbo

Unread post by angelwingsthesecond » Fri Jun 24, 2011 3:52 pm

Early wednesday morning john and Drew from Sonex did an hour long presentation on their Sonex Aerovee Turbo Engine. Worth a watch I think.

"The only thing about this engine that is VW, is the case - John Monett"

"There is no distributor on this engine... 4 systems will have to fail before the engine looses ignition" - John Monett

Aerovee Turbo produces 100HP+ at 185lbs (84kg)

"We want to make this a headache free installation" - John Monett

"This is something you cant go out and fly for 5 hours and release to public, it will be available when we ready to release it. I have close to 15-20 hours with the AeroVee Turbo... testing is going good" - Drew Waterworth (test pilot)

"...there isnt a TBO on the AeroVee engine..." - John Monett

2012 may be the year the AeroVee Turbo will be released.

"...we are seriously involved in delivering the ONEX kits... we have more ONES prototypes coming on... are we spread thin? - ya you bet.. are we working hard? - you bet... and there are just so many hours in the day..." John Monett

"There is the electic sonex project... sitting way in the back we have the Jet project and other ONEX prototypes... but for now we are serious about developing the AeroVee engine" - John Monett
This is what I do, to pay for my flying. Check out http://bit.ly/Avcom

Any further news on how the Aerovee Turbo is progressing, have not managed to get any new news off the sonex website. Could be interesting if it could reliably develop 100 hp

Hi Mark, sorry for the late response. (Got de-activated from AVCOM due to old e-mail address.)

I am waiting on some feedback regarding the progress of the Turbo and will post as soon as I receive a reply.

Hi Mark

The reply from Mark from Sonex below:

"Hi Neil,

There’s really nothing new that we can share at this point. We’re continuing to fly the prototype installation and we’re still very encouraged by it’s performance. We want to accumulate a lot of hours on the system before we’re willing to sell it, and there’s still some refinements that need to be made and tested.

Regards,
-Mark"

So there you have it. It seems like the Sonex-guys want to ensure quality performance, so we have to wait patiently for the final result.

Regards

Good news that testing continues, a sonex/waiex will really perform well on 100 hp and it would I think be way cheaper than a Jab 3300

I see Sonex have concluded testing and are taking orders on the 100 HP Aerovee Turbo. They seem to be getting very good performance numbers on their test aircraft
