Hi Bruce and Marc

Thanks for your nice comments on these old pics.
The pics I posted were scanned from colour prints (15cmx10cm).
I scanned a few from the negatives (24mmx36mm) as well to see what quality they would deliver.
The scans from the prints came out slightly better; the negative scans needed a bit more work to remedy scratches and marks.
The pics posted on Avcom were all scans from the colour prints.
The scanner I use is a CanonScan 9000F Mark II, I scanned the prints at 300dpi giving a file size of around 700kB per pic.
I scannned negatives at 1200 dpi producing a similar file size.
I edited the scans in Photoshop by slightly adjusting clarity and vibrance and applying a little bit of smart sharpening.
Thanks Photon, Its hard to believe that the pic of ZS-DRJ is from a print or negative .. it is superb =D> =D>
It must have been a top shot in the first place :)
I have lots of old print pics which require scanning hence my question as to what you used to get such great results.
Thanks for sharing the details

The original prints were indeed pin-sharp, that helps a lot.
Sharing the details is only a pleasure  :)

Wasn't there also an open day at SAA Engineering in the early '80's?

I have a recollection of walking around the engineering hangers, talking to the engineers and able get right up close to aircraft in for maintenance. The JU-52 might have also been there - can't remember if it was flying.

No photos I'm afraid :(

Yes there was. There was a A300 flypast with Impalas in formation. The late Herman Potgieter did an air to air shoot with the Ju52 (I think) from a Tiger Moth, painted silver and in really old SAA colours. That Tiger is now yellow and green and resides just up the road here (EHLE) I have some pics somewhere, ...
