I took this pic of this beauty at FAVG this morning. Stunning place so early in the morning but no activity at all... how things have changed over the years!

Thank goodness the Virginia thread is still alive -- just! Thank you.

This -CNP was pale green (all over) in a former life -- and it used to have a castering u/c (Did someone once report that that is no longer the case, perhaps?) This was the aircraft of the Geological Survey Department of the University of Natal.

Where I now see "Sheltam Aviation" written on that hanger, it used to read Placo and was the territory of Jerry Stege. Behind it, I see that Comair still reigns! That was their #2 hanger, with their main one being the hanger immediately south of the terminal building.

And Ted Cunnison Twin Air offices were round the front or were they in the next hangar down?

Yes, his office <was> in the front, facing the runway, just behind where now stands the office for payment of landing fees (new back in my day!) I wonder when you were active at FAVG? (Myself: 1969-1980)

It was Ted who related the story to me, one day, of his piloting a Canberra (RRAF) up alongside the Ruwenzoris and having to look <up> (at the top) as far as he was looking <down> to gauge the height of a charlie-bravo...and he was flying at FL500! Just imagine that!

@bogey 10: then we must have crossed paths -- wittingly or unwittingly so! I was with Comair until about '77 and then flew a couple of company aircraft (Cessnas, too: one you might recollect was a 402 registered -JCG with a schematic little man and a step ladder on the tailfin...) :D
