Unfortunately I was on the other side of the airfield when this one arrived , only a pic taken through the fence.

Other than better service and facilities - is there a good reason a foreign air force doesnt land at FAWK ? Or is that kind f thing just done. If I remember correctly the US embassy run also lands / landed at FALA.

Yesterday the Lanseria Emergency Services carried out a crash simulation exercise.
This is done (bi-annually) to test the operational readiness and disaster management capabilities of the airport.
here are some pics.

The aircraft used in the simulated crash is the ex Nationwide Airlines BAC 1-11 ZS-NUG.

Shortly afterwards the Lanseria fire trucks arrive at the scene and cover the plane in foam.

The fire is given attention and extinguished and the passengers are evacuated (note the opened emergency exits of the aircraft).

They may only use Waterkloof if they are on a military mission, the USAF fly for the Embassy therefore civilian and the ZAF are training flights
