Even though this thread is not exactly destined to become one of the longer ones on Avcom, I thought I'd nevertheless go ahead and start it.

Herewith then, some of the photos I managed to take at the airport during my last visit, which was not all too long ago:

Of course, most of these birdies (especially ZS-RUG) would look much better being photographed outdoors, preferably with their rotors in motion, maar nou ja, I guess a hangar shot is still better than no shot at all...

:!: A word of caution to the unsuspecting: Unlike planes and helicopters or anything else that can fly, cameras are not very welcome devices at Grand Central Airport. :!:

When I did my PPL there ten or more years ago, that definitely was not the case, but I guess ever since the Police was attacked at the airport, things seemed to have changed. Really a pity, because the airport does have some very interesting and also diverse aircraft flying in and out of there :( .

Well the cops are back at Rand Airport, so you really don't have to worry about them at FAGC. And in any case, they definitely rate as one of the most photographer friendly bunch I have come across over the years Image (As long as you make sure to ask for their permission before photographing their aircraft).

Nope, at FAGC, it's much less a problem of the aircraft owners and operators having issues with photographs being taken of their aircraft... :?

Strange, everybody else except me sems to have trouble taking pics at FAGC, maybe it's because I use a small camera and they can't see me taking them. The other problem of course is that I don't have a digital camera or a scanner, so can't post them here.

Taking pictures at FAGC is totally do-able, as long as you take along a "007 - Mini Spy Camera" and not a huge SLR with a 100-400mm barrel attached to it... That is pretty much how I got the shots above...
