This one is ZS-AJK. I looked up the name. She was also transferred to the SAAF in March 1940 and didn't survive the war

Some more slides from the SAAMS archive.
a series of air-to-air photographs of Boeing 747-244 ZS-SAN taken from a Boeing 707.
It seems SAA was already practicing formation flying with big jets in mid 1971

This one is ZS-ATI (c/n 2055) ex SAAF 249. She was delivered 18/002/1941 directly to the SAAF and was only returned to SAA on 29/11/1944

Thanks photon. I really enjoy your pics. Keep posting. It is a pity there is not one centralised digital archive for all these SAA images.

A digital archive with lots of photographs of SAA aircraft exists; it is part of the Transnet Heritage Library.
The personnel of THL and volunteers have catalogued and scanned thousands of SAR&H images and hundreds of SAR&H magazines that can be seen on the DRISA (digital railway images of SA) website.
Most of the pics that I post on this thread are not yet included in the THL archive.

From the THL archive is this beautiful image of SAA's Ju-52/3m ZS-AFD on the cover of the March 1936 issue of the SAR&H Magazine.

Hi photon

I have come across the THL but have only come across fairly low resolution images. Is there a place to log in to optain higher resolution images. Having scanned through the 18 000 images loaded which is among other items from railways etc., there is allot of images, especially colour images that I haven't seen so far.

I appreciate though, everyone's work, that is tackling this mammoth task of digitizing these items before they get lost forever. I have seen too many times in heritage organizations where individual members hold on to collections privately and then it eventually gets lost, never to be seen again.

Kind regards
Shieling

Hi Schieling

You can contact THL via the DRISA website and ask for access to the archive.
I have limited access to the THL image collection.

Here are a few samples of the gems in the THL image collection.

Pic of Major Allister Miller, a true SA aviation pioneer, and Union Airway's Fokker Super Universal ZS-ABR
The aircraft was written off in a crash near Kaysers Beach on 31 Dec 1931.
