Audi has a test track out there. Could be bringing in or taking out equipment. I know they have been doing testing for the past ten days so probably for this.

Definitely flying out grapes, Cape Town Harbour has been wind-bound for a little too long this year, and the harvests in that area have been especially late as well. It's the only way the farmers can get some of their fruit into Europe before Christmas to fetch some good prices. The wind is KILLING us down here...

Elasto Merics (elastoplast?), do you know where the Audi track is? Out of curiosity, I looked for it around Upington; but can find nothing...it ought to show up in satellite photos, I guess? Tks.

Chris, it's a Volkswagen AG test facility (i.e. they would cover all their brands, VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Bentley, Lambo, Bugatti)

I'll see if I can find it, but it's fairly well hidden, all that will give it away is the track itself.

It is not exactly a "track" as we think it should be. They have "parking facility" just outside of Kakamas, where they would park cars for an extended period of time to see how the paint and interior holds up against the elements. Then they use a variety of different roads with different conditions in and around the Augrabies area. Especially the road (N14) between Pofadder and a little town called Alheit for High Speed runs. As you drive through Pofadder, a beeeg yellow sign left of the road indicates that the speed limit is 250 km/h for "approved test vehicles only". BMW has also got a set headquarters (or used to) inside the Augrabies Falls National Park...

i was working in Upington in 2010 and stayed just outside at spitzkop resort. that is the road to Kalagadi where they can do 250 km/h. saw many a time and heard a v8 mercedes gunning it on that road, to return 30 min. later and then they stop next to the road or at my entrance to spitzkop and punch in on their computers.saw the Amarok for the first time their as well.took a fhoto of it next to my Mahindra

Hi guys
Sorry this is not aviation related but here is a photo of the "secret" high speed test track between Upington and Pofadder.
I have flown over the track a couple of years ago and it is massive. The length of the track is probably about 20km's.
Apparently alot of security when they are doing testing.
Cheers
