A solid 5 hours og glasswork and I have done the layups for fuse # 2 aswell as a set of wingseats and cowl for #1
This time I reenforced the read sides of the fuse wit 1.5mm aerex foam sandwiched between the glass layups, I am rather interested to see the result.

On # 1 the rear flat sides of the fuse was a little flexable to my taste, to make a flat surface styff takes allot of material and this would make it tail heavy.
I sandwiched 1.5mm aerex foam between the rear layups of glass, this makes it allot stronger with very little weight

Will demold tomorrow

The flexable rear fuselage problem of #1 has been totally solved by the aerex however at the cost of a fuselage that is 200 Gr heavier. I think it will not be a hassle as power from a 50cc engine might cause problems if flying it to wild or diving at power.
Afterall this is no fun fly model so structural integrity is essencial.

The bottom cowl also fits well and with the wingroot seats it is looking allot mre mustangy.
They will be glued on when the wing is fit to fuse so we can have a nice smooth seat.

The weight of #2 fise with rear fuse stiffners, wingseats and bottom cowl is 1790gr, Not to bad for an aerie that takes 5.5m of 163 glass and is close to 1,8m long. I can not see how I can mold it any lighter and still keep the regidity needed for such a big powerfull model, I know it will be tempting to do fast dives and low passes so it needs to be able to handle the flight loads without flutter.

Here are the reccesses glued to molds for casing shoots and wheelwells, this way the gear doors will seat up against the reccess for a neat look.

Question is how do I get those reassesses on a balsa skin Theuns??? You, Chris and Byron have had lots of experience with that and I gotta start planning for the Bonnie. Doing the redesign of nose gear mount this weekend and then I want to finish closing up the bottom.

loads amd loads of primer to build up a surface deep enough so that you can then scribe the pannel detail. Will not work doing it this way on a flying model. way to heavy :(

I tried a new gellcoat but really didnt like it to much, way to runny and takes quite long to cure.
Here is the basic leading edge joggle mold. When I mold wings this mold will have a lip of about 10mm high but it will sit inside the wing mold by about 0,7 mm to form a reccessed joggle 10mm high. Thue will then slot inside the other wing skinto be glued into place.
Easier to do and a neater seam.
I also found some interesting little one way check valves at my local pet shot. I want to use these in the vac bagging setup to lesten leaks.

In the past I have done this with very thin 0.3mm ply that has sanding sealer on it, that's the recess / stop, and also I install it after painting, then I hand paint the strip before clear coat. This way you minimal weight, and the paint doesn't round your corners.
