Rail gun build # Completed #

Unread post by Theuns v V » Sun May 12, 2013 2:47 pm

Mike asked me to build him 2 "funfly" aeries for the upcomming Fun fly Masters.
Here is what I have done.

WIngspan is 1150mm. Closed loop cables for the tail controlls. The nose was extended by 30mm to allow for the electric power setup, from there the name "rail gun"

One thing though was that these planes had to be super light as in the Masters every gram counts. The airframe as you see here weighs in at 320 gr and I am hoping for less than a 1KG MAUW......stay tuned.

I might just have to build one of these for myself aswell :D

Thanx mate. I must say with weight being so super critical here the wood selection was important, but it makes building and ahndling the uncovered model rather dufficult.

We have 90 % size and wing area of the original "funfly" but I am aiming for about 70-80% of the original's allowed weight (lighter wingloading), so in theory it should be able to outperform it.......stay tuned.

Hi T
I am about ready to cover a shotgun wing for a mate of mine, I covered mine starting on the open rib panels then the LE. and lastly the wing tips. Is there any reason to do it differently?

Mark it sound right to me mate. I try to put the darker colors over the lighter where the joint are as some clorls like yellow and red sometimes show the dark under coler through the joint.

WHere I can I try to start at the trailing edge side and work forward so the joint it inline with the airflow, but I think when correctly done it is not so critical.

The tips on there thick wing aeries are damn hard to cover without making a slit in the plastic somewhere and puting a small re-enfircement strip over the joint.

I will email it to you. I am having a hard time uploading to avcom, keep giving a "internal 500 error"

#1 just needs a 1/2 of the fuse in blue, the wing is done aswell as the tail and ailerons , ready for hindging.
#2 is ready for covering.
