Re: Depron Cargo Plane Build (ft-guinea)
Taping it like I did was a kaak idea lolGeorge.vdH wrote:Mmmm! I had a similar prob with my spoeg-&-plak twin. I ended up making the engine nacelles longer & fitting HUGE motors i just happened to have. My a.u.w was 1.6kg... of which the fuse was only 400g! I didnt tape anything like u did.
Bit of rework and off she goes!
It added so much weight, next time I will only tape bits that bend and need strength.
I moved the wing back towards the tail today and it seems to have sorted the CG. I would think it needs to come forward like I tried. Will take it to the field and ask the guys for advice.

Ek het my planne vergroot na 150% & daarom weeg myne so baie...
Aerie weeg 2.2kg & thrust is 2.6kg
Dit lyk Stunning!!!
NS: Like jou slagspreuk Tjomma!!!!
Thank you kindly,

Re: Depron Cargo Plane Build (ft-guinea)
Sadly this plane was just too heavy and I stripped it for parts.
Lesson learnt - dont cover depron in ductape!!

Re: Depron Cargo Plane Build (ft-guinea)
What span was that?
I think 2mm correx might have been a better choice of build material than foam and tape. Lighter than SA foamboard, tougher than depron and easy to paint. Ask George, he's a recent convert. But beware, it's addictive. Once again, ask George
I've got similar motors on a 1.3m span twin that weighs ~800g (IIRC) and a 1.4m Vulcan that weighs 1.6kg. Both have plenty of power. I've got the 1500KV versions and use 8x4 props and 20A ESCs. Because the current is so low, I only use one 2200 LiPo...saves almost 200g.
Actually, the P68/ Twin Otter lookalike twin was originally built with a foam board empennage, but I replaced it with 2mm correx when I realized how heavy the FOM+ board really is.
You just need to remember 2 mantras:
1) "Every gram is sacred" (Paraphrased from Monty Python)
2) "Stronger is heavier is weaker"

Yup.. Stronger is heavier is weaker!
I used to build planes strong so the are crash proof.. no such thing! Build light.. it will fly right so i dont have to crash!!
I've never used packing tape on my airies. Recenly been going smaller and lighter with my motors and batts. The results have been very pleasing.
