Depron twin motor stick - Silly stick

Unread post by charleyza »

After the dismal failure that was my cargo plane I drew this idea today.

I think "silly stick" is an appropriate name.

Has anybody built a twin stick? I found a few pictures around the Web of sticks with nacels built into the wing but noting with a twin fuse.

Thanks my mate, I found it.

I built my last stick loosely following a spad design :D

Ish that one is 1.7 meters wide (wing span) will need to make it a little smaller as I want to use two little park motors.

When someone asked Tomas Eddison how he felt about the 90 odd failures he had with the lightbulb he said he did not fail...he just found 90 ways that did not work.

I would make a standard stik fuselage with a larger rudder.
Make the engines fit on the the wings with just enough clearance for the props to miss the fuse, the closer the the centre line the better.

Build the the tail as light as you can.
Build it from balsa and leave that depron stuff allone

Hopefully by the time I get to 90 I will have paid all my school fees ^_^

I'm keen on the twin fuse instead of putting the motors on the wing.

Depron is easy to work with but covering it with vynal and duck tape was a kaak idea. I think I'm going to use a mixture of foamboard, bolsa and ply.

Don't think school fees ever stops

I've never taped my foam and depron builds, and most of them came out light.. the down-side is they are a lot more prone to hanger rash... and landing rash.

I used to try and build my airies crash-resistant but soon found out that no matter how strong you build they dont survive crashes, so rather build very light and make them fly well so to reduce the need for random testing of gravity!

I've build 4 multi's so far.. and all of them were on the heavy side. I realy should remember to size my motors smaller and keeping in mind that there are now 2 (or more) motors doing the pulling.

I'm planning my next multi now and will try and implement the lessons learnt so far. I alway thought its exactly the same as a single (just more lectrics) but in my case they were NOT...

Good point my mate, I will focus on light over "crash resistant" for the next one.

Please post your build progress, I smaak seeing what the okes build. Makes me want to go into my time machine (garrage)

Only thing I learnt from my cargo twin in terms of electrical was to remove the BEC wire from the one ESC. I never really gave it much thought but the ESC powers the RX. So you must only have one powering it. Lucky for me the okes at FlightPro are on the ball and told me :)

I don't want to use depron for my next build but I have enough of it left from the cargo plane that I think I'm going to do it (less the vynal and tape)

May be a little short for a twin.

Never made a foil like this before so let's see how it turns out ^_^

Charley,

Where's the hi-point or apex on those ribs? (I mean % from the front?)

It looks close to the leading edge.. i would place it somewhere 35 to 40% from leading edge.

Just a guess on my part

Will be following to see your progress. I just love "different"!!

I'm not sure to be honest I just cut the first rib and made the rest the same. I figured a huge foil close to the front and it would float for days? Lol

Does having the apex further back make it more stable?

Finished the foil last night.

Damn should have read avcom first and maybe moved the apex back a little?

Ribs are 3mm foam board, bottom is 6mm depron, top is 3mm depron withbolsa bolsa at the front and back edges where the elastic bands will hold it to the fuse (s)

My noob-tube inspired fuse (es) starting life from scrap 6mm depron.

I'll maybe taper the ends that join to the tail. Will decide when I cut the rudder / vertical stabaliser #-o
