Unread post by MarkB » Tue Aug 07, 2018 1:35 pm

Can anyone give me an idea of what the typical cost is for a full class 2 PPL medical renewal.

Varies, depends on doc and region. Can be anywhere from around R800 to R1800 excluding any additional blood tests they may want you to provide.

Just paid R2500 last week...

Segg is right regarding the 5 years for under 40’s, seems like new regulations that came into effect.

Almost 2 years ago now.
After 40 it is now every 2 years until 50 for class 2.
Usually the costs In the Cape or kzn are eye watering.
Never paid over R800 for a class 2 in Joburg and a thorough one at that.

Any possible references or suggestions for the Cape Town area, paying R2K plus and then yearly escalations for a medical every year does not exactly give me that warm fuzzy feeling.

Long medical one year and a short one the next, so you should not pay R2K every year.

Jet a1 is still way cheaper than that other stuff.
From the sound of things it only burns a cape medical an hour, give or take.

Hi guys,

just on this subject of medicals and validity.
I need to renew my Class 2, I am under 40 years old. Do I need to do the renewal or is the fact that a medical of my class and age is now valid for 5 years that mine can just get extended?

Thanks
Mike

You have to have a medical issued under the new regs first. The validity date will then appear on the new medical.
The old one issued under the original regs will lapse and need to be renewed.
