CAA request for chest x-ray.

Unread post by bobthebuilder » Fri Nov 30, 2018 9:28 pm

Is it normal for the CAA to request a chest x-ray some five months after the completion of a class 4 medical examination?

The last time I had one, was eleven years ago for my first medical.

Can't say if it's normal, most likely random.

I went for my medical yesterday morning at 08:00, passed with flying colours and received the certificate on the spot.

This was the first time the doctor did NOT have chest x-rays taken, which he did the previous time.

Received a call this afternoon at 16:00 from the doctor, stating that the CAA requested a letter from my optometrist confirming the strength of my spectacles as well as the last date my eyes were examined.

Strange, but again most likely random.

Also strange as it's unlikely that the CAA would be in posession of my new medical that fast (a day after) - told the doctor to hold on, linked him to a conference call with the optometrist and a letter was sent and received as we spoke 8)

Did you do a lung capacity test at that medical?
IIRC it is only needed for an initial medical unless they think there is an issue, your doc should be able to explain why.

I wonder why they don’t trust the AME, who they appointed, to do the job. I’m hearing of too many medical being asked for unnecessary tests by CAA these days.

I did the lung capacity test at the time, and had absolutely no difficulty. Doc signed me out.

I too, thought it was only required for the initial.

Just wondered if anyone else had had the same experience.

When I did my last one,the Doctor checked all my details online, then told me what was required for that medical,
other than that no issues, apart from my usual back ache after a bike accident
