Pilansberg - Anyone have some info ?

Unread post by Matty_Wings » Tue Aug 28, 2018 2:32 pm

Good Day All,

So Sun City has for some lucky reason gifted me with a free night at the end of September. It suddenly dawned upon me that the only time ive ever flown to Pilansberg was during my NAV's last year and that was nothing but a quick touch & go. I would like to use this opportunity to atleast see what Pilansberg airport is all about.

So, my questions are as follows;

1.) How much are the landing fees ?
2.) Do they offer secure parking for the plane ? (How much is overnight storage ?)
3.) Do they / Sun City offer some or other shuttle service to collect us and drop us off ?

Any further information and tips will be much appreciated. =D>

Thanks!

Just remember that runway is closed for resurfacing - estimated end 26 Sept, but don't be surprised if it takes longer.

It is my understanding, may be the local gossip, that Pilansberg is closing permanantly. As I understand it there is no ATC or customs etc any longer. This was a "hangar discussion" and subject to verification...perhaps Goffel has some inside info?

Spoke to the tower and it seems like they plan to open Pilanesberg on 1st November. I thought the time set for repairs seemd too fast as this is Africa and it is the norm to not stick to planned dates.

Seems like runway will be redone and fencing replaced. Not sure about customs
It will be bad if no customs & ommigration as this will be a huge bugger up when flying out to Bots airshow and race for rhino. Just imagine that traffic now all going to FALA. Flyung in to FALA is easy and friendly but eish, the cost is rediculous.

I intend leaving my aircraft overnight at Pilansberg International Airport:
Is anyone aware if there are tie-down points available on the apron?
If no tie-down points available, is there a grass area available that I can secure my "Claw" Tie-down to?

Many thanks

Everything was in good condition and operating normally for my February 2019 visit.
Cable tie-down points were available.
Friendly staff, reasonable landing/ passenger/overnight fees.
Adequate security.
