Landing for a Helicopter

Unread post by itsmigzss » Thu Feb 14, 2019 12:36 pm

Good Day all

Need some advice and was hoping I could get some answers on the forum. I am planing on getting engaged, we have someone willing to take us up in an Gazelle to somewhere special in and around Pretoria (Magaliesberg, Centurion, Cullinan), we would like to land the Copter on a beautiful Mountain Peak with a nice setup and I will ask her on the Peak, only problem is finding a suitable place. It must be accessible for a vehicle as the troops will go and set up before the Helicopter comes in to land. It must also be legal and if permission is needed, we will have to get it granted. Any advice on places will be deeply appreciated, we are open to ideas and the rest will be up to us to organise. :D

Beautiful mountain peak in Centurion/Cullinan? Rather go all the way and do it in the Drakensberg.

Flight schools regularly have "mountain flying weekends" where they legally land in some spectacular places, i.e. they know where the best spots are.

Get hold of NAC or Henley Air to discuss the costs and logistics.

There is an AvCommer, Dirty Harry that owns a helicopter operation in the Drakensberg. I am sure he has done this many times before and could do so at the drop of a hat. Contact him. :D

We fly everyday up into the Drakensberg mountains from either our Dragon Peaks Mountain Resort Base or Cathedral Peak Hotel Base.
You can get engaged with a picnic in the mountains and get to stay in the berg for a day or two.
