Kuilfontein Stables

Unread post by Shaunus » Wed Apr 10, 2019 1:51 pm

Hi all

We were roadtripping from JHB to CT and stayed a night at the Kuilfontein Stables just outside Colesburg. I have always wanted to fly in as have seen the details on Easyplan, but have yet to do so. We stayed the night at it was fantastic. Really 5 star accom and food, yet homely and good prices! Myself and the wife arrived just in time for sunset, and grabbed a bottle of wine for a Karoo sunset at the end of the runway. Its in good nick, just missing a windsock at the moment.

Highly recommended stopover if you are in the middle of the country, along with Zeekoegat!
Cheers
Shaun

Hi Shaun

I’m planning on stopping by there in a couple of weeks time with the Super Cub. How is the runway?
How far from the runway is the accommodation?
I assume there’s no fuel? How’s their pricing compared to Gariep?

Thanks

For a Super Cub, you don't need a runway! But Kuilfontein's runway is perfect and long, over 1000m (1300 according to Easyplan).

The owner has a Savannah and he does have some mogas you could probably purchase if you ask nicely. Ask about avgas, though it will probably be Gariep if Bloem won't do. His father in law comes in every now and again in a Glasair, so its a lovely field. Just phone beforehand to see the status of the windsock. You basically taxi to the accom... Great little bar, and amazing Karoo lamb!
