Lekoa Lodge - Great Experience

Unread post by bobthebuilder » Tue Apr 30, 2019 12:28 am

Took a short flight down to Lekoa Lodge this weekend and thought I'd share my experience.

Having had the weekend free, with the girlfriend away with her friends in Mozambique I figured, since the cats away ...

I contacted Lekoa Lodge via their online booking system, and recieved a response within fifteen minutes. They emailed their their rates and an information sheet pertaining to their runway. Steve at the lodge inspected and cleared the runway the day before my departure, following the heavy rainfall during the week. On Saturday morning, we had a brief conversation before departure regarding the weather conditions there at the time, and he sent pictures of the windsock, and the the sarounding area to confirm the mist had cleared. After a fairly short flight, I was there.
Steve was wating for me me upon arrival, and I was collected from the runway which is about a kilometer from the lodge. The runway is fenced, and has tie down facilities. While there isn't a security guard, the area is safe.

The chalets are really nice, and reasonably priced, as is their menu. Camping facilities are also available.

What an aviation friendly spot!

Highly recommended for a breakfast stop, a weekend stopover, or simply some peace and quiet. Thanks Steve and your team for a lovely weekend. =D>

We took 4 aircraft from JLPC to Lekoa lodge today. (Sling 4, Mooney M20, Arrow III and Sportsman)
Lovely little flight - runway is in good nick albeit a fairly challenging uphill approach.

Steve met us and offered to drive us down (@Bearcat you can't taxi down that road anymore) but we walked and had a good breakfast where sadly we had to leave moments before we had as a group solved all of the world's problems.

By the time we left a C182 and a ?Safari? had also arrived. Apparently they can accommodate up to 15 aircraft.

Given the slope of the runway we elected to leave with a slight tailwind. Was a great morning out, would go again.
