Where do you fly to on the Natal North Coast where you can get nice affordable accomodation and perhaps some avgas?

Now THAT is a problem I have yet to solve. The only place along the coast, North of Virgina, with Avgas, Is Richards Bay.

If you go further North, Manzengwenya is a good little tar strip. It serves the 5 star lodges in the area, which are not on the cheap side: Rocktail Bay, Tonga Beach Lodge etc. In a month or two I'm going to try out the campsite (Mabibi) run by Tonga Beach Lodge. It is a community project along with KZN Parks and walking distance from the beach. I'll report back.

Sodwana (FAWW) is gesluit. Dit is amper meer 'n ontbering as 'n avontuur.

As jy haar wil bederf is Rocktail Beach Camp, naby Manzengwenya 'n opsie.

Of rêrig bederf: Thonga Beach Lodge.

Altwee bg lodges sal julle by vliegveld kom haal en 'n wag vir die êrie reël. By Thonga sal jy moet uithaal en wys, boet! .....Ek bedoel geld. Ek verneem dis die geld werd.

As jy Laeveld toe wil kom, is Hippo Pools natuurlik 'n uitstekende bestemming. Minder kans dat die weer jou naweek gaan bederf. Parkeer die vliegtuig naby jou chalet. G'n wag of transport nodig nie.

What a fantastic idea - I for one am very glad for it.

I would like to make a suggestion: I feel it is important when one submits a place - to give some sort of idea of the broader location of the place- like Chrissiesmeer , it is the odd 45min or so east of Gauteng in the area of Carolina and Ermelo.

That way I know if this place is relevant to my search.

Dirk
I agree with you, Dirk, and suggests that telephone numbers, and if possible, web info should also be included. In fact, the more
info, the better.
P.S. Dirk, dink jy nie jou ""Profile foto" is 'n biekie oud nie??

Charl Barnard wrote:Have the Zebula chaps cleaned up their act yet? Last time I flew there they wanted something like R90 or so to collect you from the field, and another R90 to return to the aircraft! Bit far to walk, and the transport costs makes a brekkie seem even more expensive than it should be! Compare this to Walter at Inkwe ( http://www.segelflug.co.za ) that left us a quad bike for our own use free of charge!
One of my biggest problems with flying to (and staying over/just breakfast) many destinations is transport at the other end-harder with the 210 than it was with a trike where you can just take the wing off and ride the cart :D . Should be a no-brainer for destinations wanting to attract pilots flying in to have at least some sort of rudimentary transport available?
Best example of this was Pikkie (I think!) who lent us his brand new bakkie for a day when we landed at Springbok and called his guest house from the field!

Charl
There is no charge for transport to, and from the field at Zebula. Awesome place. Maybe you got mixed up with Mabalingwe, where there is quite a hefty landing fee.

Champagne Sports Resort in the Drakensberg.
www.champagnesportsresort.com
Lekker golf...

You can fly into El Mirador (FALQ) and the resort will pick you up there. (1.5km from resort)
Advice is what we ask when we already know the answer but wish we didn't...

You can pm Hennie de Clerk, he is the resident aviator there. Just search for him under his name, otherwise I can help with his no if you pm me.

I landed there a few times, one of the scarier fields, but nice :D

Mazeppa
The management at Mazeppa charge an exorbitant rate to place a guard at your aircraft. When I queried the rate the answer was that they charge the same for one aircraft or many aircraft. The guard does not get the amount the hotel charges but considerably less. When you make a booking check the rate!
