Agreed, SAX are struggling to fly their current schedule. They have zero capacity to expand at the moment.
grjplanes wrote:I'm not seeing what SAA flight is currently still operating with night-stop at PLZ, perhaps it was withdrawn in the January cuts, but then Mango took up the capacity, not necessarily the times.
They're not currently operating it. It was one of the flights cut earlier this year. Mango did replace some, but not all the capacity, but were not able to schedule an early morning departure from PLZ (they only have nightstops in JNB, CPT, DUR). SA used to operate a 6:10 departure which allowed connections to regional flights (NBO, DAR, HRE, WDH, MRU, MPM, etc) and even some smaller domestic flights that depart between 9:30 and 10:30. The earliest JE departure from PLZ is 8:25, which only arrives at JNB at 10:05. Airlink will fill the gap nicely.

Unfortunately no photos only saw it flying over Northcliff. There is a snatched video of it taking off from Lanseria on Facebook "South African Plane Spotters United".

It seems Airlink have now taken delivery of all aircraft that was previously mentioned to be added to fleet and all being active:

10 x E190
3 x E170
11 x ERJ140

Will they still be receiving more, since there are still AvroRJs operating as well and no West/Central African routes have been started as was rumored back when SAA dropped those destinations.

They're still flying on old SAX routes like CPT-PLZ which might explain why the ARJs are still flying.

I have heard that the RJ85's will all be withdrawn from service by the end of this year

I really hope and pray that at least one of the RJ85'S will be considered for saving and donated and maybe sent to Rand Airport and join the SAA collection of aircraft.
