TAAG to Europe

Unread post by Standbye » Tue Mar 07, 2017 6:13 am

For those in the know on this airline thread. Perhaps we can get some info.
TAAG operates flight from OR to Lisbon via Luanda.
What aircraft do they use ? Who crews and operates them ? Who are they maintained by ?

Flights are really well priced.

Any enlightenment on this....

For both flights (JNB-LAD and LAD-LIS), TAAG operate Boeing 777s. The JNB route is a mix of 777-200ERs and -300ERs and the LIS flight is generally operated solely by -300ERs. They are operated by TAAG crews and are maintained at their base in Luanda as far as I know. A very professional carrier that are always punctual upon arrival and departure at JNB.

I have seen those fares and they are very attractive. I am flying to Europe in July and was considering taking TAAG, but I am flying a multi city trip so it made more sense to take Qatar Airways instead as it was cheaper in the long run than to have to start and finish my trip in Lisbon.

I haven't heard anything bad about TAAG though so they might be worth a try.

Mix of 777-300ER and 777-200ER to both JNB and CPT routes, but lately more and more 777-300ERs. JNB is daily, CPT currently 3 weekly, but at the end of the year that will increase to daily. Portugal flights mostly with 777-300ER as well.

I have booked two Euro trips for this year with them, in May: JNB-LAD-OPO / LIS-LAD-CPT, was R4050...added OPO-BCN and MAD-LIS with TP and IB...total added to about R6000 then.
For Nov booked again JNB-LAD-OPO-LAD-CPT for R4150...will just add a Ryanair OPO-LGW and come in under R6000 again.

Hopefully it's worth it...but I don't expect much from Luanda airport though.

Wow that's just made look at their website and found flights to rio/sau Paulo for R6600 and great connecting times, I'd have to add another r1000 to get from Durban, anyone flew with them?

When I flew back to DXB from CPT I saw a B777-300 standing there flown by two rather pale fellows.

Aviation would be great, if it wouldn't be for passengers.

I am going to book Cape Town to Porto via Luanda. R10700 return for 2. It certainly is the cheapest way to get to europe from SA. I am a bit worried about the 90 min connection time in Luanda between the flights. I doubt that is enough time in the bureaucratic land much less so if the plane is late.

I have decided to go with patience, a sense of humour and not expecting much, that way I am bound to be impressed.

I had the pleasure of flying for TAAG for 2 years over the period when they were not allowed to operate into EU due to compliance issues. We used B744, and only flew Luanda to Lisbon.

I often positioned with them on the B777 from JNB, had no qualms about their abilities which seemed good to me. They were very good to us, and we were always treated with respect and a very friendly attitude.

I would use them without hesitation.

Does one need inoculations when flying via Luanda to Lisbon? Is Malaria an issue at the airport?

We have an 11 week old baby so one has to consider these things. :D

We've just booked to fly TAAG to Lisbon in September. After insurance and a few other gimmicks, took us for R12600 for two adults, a child and an infant. Layover times seem a pleasure. A few of our friends have done it and they say they prefer the airline over the likes of BA, Emirates, SAA etc. To put it in perspective, the next cheapest flight was in the region of 27k, for upward of 5 hours extra commuting time. Makes it difficult to argue with those numbers...
