Had reasonably good experiences on my two trips last year...although both times there was a flight change before hand, however they did assist with changes...
For the price it's quite okay, 77Ws in good condition with enough space and comfortable, sufficient IFE on PTVs if needed, on-time.
Only drawback is Luanda airport itself, bit stuffy, cramped, expensive...but once again, survivable with the 2 to 4 hour transfer times.

I was looking to maybe use them again in Aug, they don't do the R4000 deals anymore, although still between 6 and 7000 okay...however then found a KQ/AF combination CPT-NBO-CDG return for R5500...the new nonstop CPT-NBO 737 overnight flights connecting with the new AF 789 NBO-CDG

Hopefully the new Luanda airport, whenever that opens, will be a lot better.
How many hours is the CPT-NBO flight? Can't imagine it's very comfy on a 737
Positive rate! :D

Apparently only opening in 2019 now.

Infrastructure for new airport well under way...

Traffic will still be hectic but better than the +1hr drive(40km) to current FNLU

LOS yes...

Viana roads.... 28km

The Zango road does not (yet) connect to the airport.

Apparently the vision was to have a world class airport(Technology wise) but as with the rest of Africa and soon SA, the best laid plans of men and mice.....

I have taken the plunge and booked CPT to Oporto in June 2019 for 2 weeks. I will report back after the trip.

At R11 955 economy return for 2 adults, this must be one of the cheapest ways to get to Europe.

Took the TAAG flight from Jhb-Oporto last August and the return Lisbon-Jhb.

I must say this flight was a real pleasure, and at just at just under R6100 a ticket will definately book Euro trip through them again.

My folks have been using them for years (taking advantage of the R4000 special as mentioned in a previous post) Last trip from Lisbon they flew to Amsterdam on a Euro low cost (I believe the Orange one, Blue guys have too many hidden costs) and still ended up paying half the price of the closest rival.

Yes, as mentioned Luanda isnt the best of transit airports, expensive and hot, but if youve done it once you get the routine and find the best way to go about it. Very professional crew. We had the unfortunate luck of having a little bit of attitude from the FA but I believe I would be the same if I had to deal with the very intoxicated ladies sitting behind us on the way to Oporto. So cant complain about that...

Pro's: Travelling with kids is amazing. The Groundstaff or Security spot YOU before you spot THEM and escort you to the front of the Queue's, take you to the bus first and help you through the gates. Very respectful of parents travelling with young kids (we could all learn from them) Make yourself known if they miss you.

Aircraft configuration allows for plenty of legroom (I believe most of their 777's have a 3:3:3 economy config whereas most airlines use a 3:4:3 config) Something similar to Premium Economy or at a push, Business on our Domstic carriers.

Long turn around in Johannesburg (something like 3 hrs +) so they always end up leaving on time or a few minutes early. On time arrrival in Portugal.

No need for yellow fever if in transit to Europe (you do however need the jab if you going to South America) Taag has a statement on their website about this too which you can print and take along for peace of mind.

Cons: Expensive Luanda airport, if you feel you're gona get hungry rather pack in a snack and some water (definatley some water). We wanted to buy 2 of the small Lays chips and 2 cokes and the price came to U$27!!! sent it back asap! [-X [-X [-X

Food on board is not the best, this is where the other carriers beat them hands down. Your choice meal will be "okay", but rock hard bread and a custard dessert and a very dissapointing breakfast wont be winning any michelin stars in the near future. As mentioned above maybe pack a snack...

Get to the airport early! Especially in Portugal (well Lisbon at least). We arrived 3 hours before departure and were second to last in the queue. So dinner plans at the airport went out the window as we boarded with 5 min to spare. Again...3 hours before departure!

DO NOT try to pre-book seats online (at least thats what the TAAG Jhb office told us) This apparently messes with the system and you might end up sitting on opposite sides of the aeroplane. Rather contact the Jhb office about a week before your flight and beg and plead them to pre-book your seats. They were very willing to help when we tried.

Only about 50% of the IFE was working. When we flew they were only working on 1 of the 4 legs...Not a big issue, short'ish flight. We dont read enough these days anyways...Get a book...

Hope this helps.... :D :D :D
