A weekly B748F that arrives at 16:00 on a Sunday afternoon would be awesome to see 8)

Very much hope the A350 comes to Joburg as my son is Aircrew on the 350 so he can come and see us for a change.

All these international carriers are overshadowing SAA to the extent that one has to wonder what does SAA actually bring to the market? My knowledge is limited wrt the overall picture of the subject.

Allowing Cathay to fly direct to Cape Town will have the effect that the SAA flight from Hong Kong to Joburg will have less demand from pax who wish to travel on to Cape Town who are now able to fly directly to Cape Town. So their domestic demand also reduces somewhat.

With Cathay being One World, how did their pax from Hong Kong travel on to Cape Town originally? BA Comair?

Not surprisingly really seeing how massively all the other airlines are using CPT internationally, not just seasonally too. A week ago I flew with Edelweiss from Zurich - Cape Town and back. Going there the flight was totally full, and on the way back it was 3/4's full (however a delay of 7 hours, which we were informed about 3 days prior, could have meant business class pax were sent on earlier flights).

This will surely mean even more connection options for CPT pax to the far east, which is good news for sure for those not wanting to transit though the middle east. Hopefully Cathay do well with this route.

There is too much political clout at SAA. Too many different agendas. Unfortunately politicians are usually not capitalist thinkers.
