Comair B737 Max-8

Unread post by FoxTROT » Tue Dec 18, 2018 8:57 pm

For those interested, information on the build status of Comair’s first B737 Max-8 can be found in this document: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... view#gid=6 (under B737 Production List)

It is listed as Line number 7363 and is shown to be in Final Assembly at the moment.
I’m not sure of the typical timeline from factory rollout to first flight, but according to the table in the document it appears that it is usually an average of about 20 days from first flight to delivery for most B737’s these days.

Last I heard they were expecting delivery of the first aircraft in Q1 2019.

Comair's second B737 Max8 is now shown (link in the first post of this topic) as being in final assembly, L/N 7420.
I assume this will likely take up the reg of ZS-ZCB.

No news on the first aircraft, ZS-ZCA, having done its first flight yet.

I wonder if the US government shut down caused delays with certification, etc.

Comair’s 737 Max 8s to be Maintained at Denel facilities in Johannesburg

Lufthansa Technik will carry out the maintenance work for the airline.
Feb 22, 2019

Last year South Africa’s Comair selected Lufthansa Technik (LHT) as its service partner for its new 737 MAX 8s, as opposed to long-time maintenance provider South African Airways Technical (SAAT).

There was a question as to exactly where maintenance would be conducted and it has now been confirmed that LHT will use the Denel facilities behind Johannesburg’s OR Tambo airport. In terms of the agreement, LHT will provide engineering, planning, line maintenance and component support.

Erik Venter, Comair CEO, said the carrier partnered with LHT because of its familiarity and expertise with the specific aircraft type and the potential operational efficiencies to be gained in terms of maintenance turnaround time.

The carrier was originally slated to take delivery of the first two of eight 737 Max 8 aircraft in January 2019, but delivery is now expected in the last week of February or March. Comair currently operates 26 Boeing aircraft.
