Because sanctions prohibit them to fly in spare parts.

I see the aircraft only positioned back today! Apparently it was further delayed by the US govt. shutdown, in order to get approval to send the new engine to Iran. Massive cost implications to have an asset like that stuck on the ground for months!

One wonders if insurance would cover something like this. I also wonder if this had been an N registered aircraft, if the whole thing would have been protracted even longer, and politicized by Iran.

Delta and United probably had a hand in the sudden problem getting it parts.

No insurance wouldn't haven't have covered the added down time? Or No, an American carrier wouldn't have been delayed further, due to current political tension between the US and Iran??
