And they're using microlights for spraying in SA, so why not gyros?

This is interesting: what does it cost per hour to fly a gyro?

Do they trailer gyros?

You can. Some people store their gyro's in their car garage and trailer it to the field. The rotors are very easy to remove (Relatively :) ).
Gyro's are so cheap to fly though that it will be more fun to just fly it to the work site.
Someone else can drive in the pesticide...

There is another thread on the cost of owning a gyro, but the hourly cost excluding fixed costs should be about R600 an hour (Fuel and maintenance included)...

:D thinking of it as a business, you'd have to truck in the fuel and chems anyway, so cheaper to pull the whole lot on a trailer and save on the flying costs. Farmers are charged per hectare sprayed, so any flying while not spraying is a waste of money. There are a bunch of places (like around Ceres etc) where the f/w okes can't get in, especially those with the bigger machines.

Probably too old and doddery but can't help but wonder (man's allowed to daydream, right?), what sort of medical do you need (lost my 1st class, but maybe less stringent for no-pax gyro ops)? Do the regs allow for commercial gyro ops? Is there some sort of gyro CPL, or does one have to skelm around on a trailer avoiding Goffel? sort of like hanging out with the illegal drone okes  and getting cr@pped on by the f/w Avcommers ... 8-[
