Which Drone to Buy ?

Unread post by agrinter » Wed Jan 08, 2020 3:48 pm

Hi Guys
I'm considering getting a drone to use on the farm and occasionally to take sailing with me.
I would like something that is fairly easy to use and does not need adjustments for getting good pics.
What drone would you recommend ?
I've looked at the Mavic pro 2 but I'm not convinced that I'll use it enough to justify the price.
Thanks in advance.

I have recently bought the DJI Spark Flymore combo after selling my Pahntom 3 Pro a while back. I am really enjoying this little drone. Can be flown by hand gestures, from a cell phone or with the remote. The combo includes a small bag that is easy to throw into the back of the car or as a shoulder bag. The battery can also be recharged from any usb port whilst still in the drone. Whilst the camera cannot be compared to the larger larger Phantom's, it still takes amazing pictures and video. A really handy little drone worth while taking a look at, and wont break the bank at about R7500 for the combo. I got mine from Droneworld.

Thanks for the info Ricoby.
I'm leaning towards a Mavic mini at this stage. They seem to have fairly good reviews.
The only problem is finding one. Most places are out of stock.

Just keep in mind the Mavic Mini in the US has a rated range of 4km and is a different model (FCC model) to the one you get in SA (CE model) which is rated for 2km.
Mavic Mini in SA realistically seems to get out to around +/-500m in towns and +/-1.5km on farms). The US drones do around double that.

Thanks Aardwolf
I had the Mavic Mini for a week now and am very happy with it.
It obviously has its limitations but its more than enough for what I do with it.

Can one not purchase the FCC model in SA via somebody? How do the range limitations work for SA?

My question was badly phrased, what I'm curious about is if you bring a US drone to SA does the range limitations auto kick in? Is that some sort of location info that reduces that range via the software when you fire up the drone?
