Something about this i don't like, when someone or several people pushes the like button, the rating still looks bad, first it shows zero out of 5 stars and secondly it shows a 1 percentage figure or say 7 or 8 percent if several people voted.

Now i understand the thinking that it is based on the amount of votes that was given. But it does not change the fact that it does not look good even though it should because people liked the post, so almost all posts is going to look like that because not a 100 people is ever going to vote on one comment giving it a more fair looking percentage or stars, unless it's a one in a hundred type of post.

The problem is people is going to perceive the post as being rated poorly even though it is not. And over the long term people will be hesitant to vote simply because it makes the original poster look bad by default even though it should not.

Look at this:
This is how the rating system should work, this site have been at it for over a decade and it works well:

https://phys.org/news/2019-03-australia ... inter.html

The rating is based upon what the reader of the post is giving/rating the original poster ie:
If 2 people give a 5 star rating, the original poster gets 100%
If 4 people vote and 2 give 1 out of 5 stars and the other two 5 out of five stars, the final figure gets divided.

This will look more fair without confusing people whether a post is being given a good rating or not and simultaneously encourage more voting !

The only time the like button should not be visible is when it is your own post, or you are not logged in.
It's not available on the Academy
Fixed. Mods could see it, but not the rest.
Thanks Roger :D

On mobile platforms, the whole bunch of buttons on the top right of a post are rolled up and replaced with a 3 bar menu. Click that and it 'unrolls' into all the options.

+1 is Google  The phys.org site is a blog allowing comments as opposed to a community forum. The software options and offerings are very different for each platform and we are pretty much in the hands of 3rd party developers as to how they implement ideas.

The way it is meant to read, is that a post with a rating, no matter how small, is probably more valuable than one without.

I am not wholly convinced I like the rating system, and we do have the option to turn it off. Would appreciate more community feedback.

Perhaps adjust the CSS to hide the rating score box and only keep the list of people who liked the post?

FWIW you can see who liked a post and you can see whose posts get the most likes (really don't understand why people don't like lawyers more  ) so don't really see the value in the rating system.

Participating in social media is optional.
There are topics where "it's not my circus, not my monkey" so not posting is approriate or "I add value because I have knowledge, training, experience on the subject". This is where the real value in these fomums lie.
There are times where post chasing is evident.

Same.
It has provided some interesting insight but seems to have become another way for validation or patting people you agree with on the back.
It's the same people giving likes to the same people for sharing the same views, so nothing new.

What value does a "like" have anyway, even Hitler had people that liked him and were he on social media today would no doubt also get plenty of thumbs up.
It's all a bit superfluous imho.

Switch the "like" function of. This is not a cooking/wedding forum!..
