CPL (H) (IFR) - Helicopter Technical and General exam advice

Unread post by Rotorphonic » Fri Dec 27, 2013 8:44 am

Good morning,

As the topic points out I am writing the Helicopter technical and general CPL exam soon but I am struggling to find some solid information on the syllabus. I have had a look at the syllabus as provided by the CAA but it only specifies the Aircraft General knowledge and does not really mention the helicopter principles of flight. I have heard from my peers that a significant amount of the work is indeed Helicopter principles of flight.

Any advice on which direction to go in would be greatly appreciated.

I have the following textbooks available:

Principles of Helicopter Flight - WJ Wagtendonk
Pooley's Helicopter Manual - Principles of flight Technical H
Rotorcraft Flying Handbook
Avex Air CPL manual - Aircraft Technical and General volume 2: Airframes, Engines and systems

If there are other sources available please let me know and ill gladly pursue them.

Thanks very much and have a fantastic festive season.

Kind regards.

You have the books, the Wagtendonk one I think covers pretty much what you will get in the exam. We all struggled to find info and by getting bits and pieces from friends as well as the avex notes (avex notes did not help much by the way), we got through! Good luck.

The only other thing you can maybe do is the mock exams. That would give you a good idea of what's coming down the pike.

Good luck!

Henley Air had a great AT&G book for helicopters. Check with them if they still supply it. Cannot remember the name. But it was based on a Air Force AT&G book. I used it for my comm many moons ago.

Helicopter specific question databases are scarce.

I used Bristol Ground School for subjects like AT&G.

Look at my response to that thread. It might not have helicopter specific stuff but some of the stuff in there might help with more detailed descriptions of certain components.
